Turkish company Celebi moves Madras HC to challenge cancellation of services contract at Chennai airport
Turkish company Celebi's subsidiary has moved the Madras High Court seeking an interim injunction on the Airports Authority of India's decision to cancel its concession agreement for the Chennai Airport, LiveLaw reported on June 9. The company is seeking Madras HC intervention over AAI's cancellation of the concession agreement, after the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) removed its security clearance, it added. Chennai Airport had cancelled its contract with Celebi Ground Services Chennai on May 26, the report said. Addressing the Madras HC bench of Justice Abdul Quddhose for Celebi, advocate PS Raman told the court that the company made huge investments for equipments and software, adding that the AAI was attempting to appoint a third parties, who would exploit these tools, the LiveLaw report stated. DVAC assures Madras HC it won't close TASMAC FIRs while PIL for CBI probe is pending
Madras high court CHENNAI: The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption ( DVAC ) on Thursday assured the Madras High Court that FIRs registered against TASMAC and its officials would not be closed pending the disposal of the PIL seeking the transfer of the probe to the CBI. "I will advise the Home Secretary not to file a closure report in any of the cases," Advocate-General P S Raman said. The submission was made in view of the apprehension raised by the vacation bench of Justice G S Swaminathan and Justice V Lakshminarayanan that the present PIL would become infructuous if the FIRs were closed. The court then recorded the submission of the AG and directed the DVAC to file status reports of the FIRs in three weeks. The issue pertains to a PIL moved by Advocate K Venkatachalapathy, alleging that the irregularities against the state-owned liquor corporation were valued at over Rs 1,000 crore and wanted the court to order a probe by the central agency. Relying on several orders passed by the Supreme Court, the petitioner submitted that the Apex Court emphasised the importance of a fair trial and investigation and the role of the courts in ensuring public confidence. "Assurance of a fair trial is the first imperative of the dispensation of justice and the central criterion for the court to consider whether there is a need for transfer of the probe," he said.

‘No irregularities in schemes for dalits'

When the plea came up for hearing on Friday, additional advocate-general J Ravindran, representing the municipal administration department, submitted that the court must provide more time for the department to produce the files. "The scheme started in 2023, but the petitioner remained silent until May 2025 and moved the second vacation court. The court ordered the production of files and posted for orders today (Friday). I am seeking a reasonable time. This is only a request," Ravindran said.
