Goa Raj Bhavan organises 'Sarva Dharma Sadasu' to condemn Pakistan's

Panaji (Goa) [India], May 10 (ANI): The Goa Raj Bhavan on Saturday organised a 'Sarva Dharma Sadasu' (All-Religious Gathering) to collectively condemn the 'unethical and unwarranted actions' of Pakistan against India. The event was held at the historic Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan, Goa. The solemn assembly was convened to express unwavering support for the Indian Armed Forces and the Union Government's steadfast efforts in defending the nation's sovereignty and integrity. The Governor of Goa, PS Sreedharan Pillai, and the Chief Minister of Goa, Dr Pramod Sawant, graced the occasion and addressed the gathering. In his address, the Governor emphasised the importance of unity and the timeless power of truth. 'Dharma is truth, and truth will always prevail. Ultimately, evil will fail,' he stated, urging all citizens to stand united for the nation. Each speaker expressed heartfelt prayers and messages of support for the soldiers and the central leadership working tirelessly to safeguard India. The 'Sarva Dharma Sadasu' served as a significant symbol of national unity and spiritual resilience, showcasing that irrespective of religious background, the people of India stand together in the face of external aggression. Hours after it agreed to stop all firing and military action on land, in the air and sea, following a call its DGMO made to his Indian counterpart, reports came of Pakistan violating the cessation of hostilities with India's air defence intercepting Pakistani drones amid a blackout in Srinagar. Red streaks were seen and explosions heard as India's air defence intercepted Pakistani drones. Loud explosions were heard in Srinagar. A complete blackout has been enforced in Pathankot and Ferozepur in Punjab and Jaisalmer and Barmer in Rajasthan. India and Pakistan on Saturday worked out an understanding on the stoppage of firing and military action. India had launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in reply to the ghastly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22. The terror attack had killed 26 people. India had struck nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Pakistan sought to up the ante with a series of unprovoked escalations using artillery guns and drones. (ANI)

Will send report to central govt on Shirgao tragedy: Governor

Panaji: Goa governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Sunday visited the families of those who died and were injured in the Devi Lairai jatra stampede early on Saturday. Pillai said he would send a report to the Centre on the tragedy, based on what has been narrated to him by the victims. Central govt may decide to extend aid to those affected based on the report. 'This is the first time that such a tragic stampede has occurred in Goa. I am grateful to the Hon'ble President and the PM, who promptly intervened and issued the necessary directions,' Pillai said. 'Today, I also conveyed Modi Ji's condolences to the bereaved families.' He added, 'I came here cancelling my events in other states. It is a sad incident. It is beyond our human expectations.' He went on to say, 'State and central govts are trying their best to help them (the affected people) within our limits. State govt has already declared an aid of Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for the injured.' Pillai further said, 'If at all something more is required, we will do that.' He added, 'Immediate medical facilities were provided to save lives. Now, I was inquiring, and various types of comments are coming from the people. Naturally.' He further said, 'We will do justice to them by extending all our help from state govt and central govt. The Centre may also think about it. I may also send a report.' The governor visited the houses of the deceased Aditya Kauthankar, Tanuja Kauthankar, and Yeshwant Kerkar at Tivim. Aditya, aged 16, who had just cleared his Class X, is the youngest victim of the stampede. The governor also met the family of Surya Mayekar from Padoshe, Sattari, whose son had also been injured in the stampede. The other victims' families he visited were of Sagar Nandadurgi at Mathwada, Bicholim; and Pratibha Kalangutkar at Mangado, Corlim.
