Bhool Chuk Maaf Box Office Collection Day 3: Rajkummar Rao's Film Crosses Rs 25 Crore Mark

New Delhi: Despite mixed reviews and a limited theatrical window, debutant director Karan Sharma's romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf is showing promising growth at the domestic box office. Starring Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi, the film crossed the Rs 25 crore mark in just three days. Bhool Chuk Maaf collected Rs 11.25 crore on Sunday, marking its highest single-day collection since its release on Friday. The film opened at Rs 7.20 crore and earned Rs 9.81 crore on Saturday, showing a gradual increase in earnings over the weekend. The film's opening weekend total stands at Rs 28.71 crore. If the film manages to hold steady on Monday, it is expected to cross Rs 30 crore by the end of the day. With this performance, Bhool Chuk Maaf has surpassed the total box office collection of Kangana Ranaut's Emergency (Rs 20.48 crore) and the opening weekend earnings of John Abraham's The Diplomat (Rs 13.30 crore), both of which released earlier this year. On Sunday, the film recorded the highest occupancy during evening shows at 43.96%, followed by afternoon (35.51%), night (29.05%), and morning (11.50%) shows. Region-wise, Chennai saw the highest occupancy at 86%, followed by Jaipur (38.75%), Bengaluru (37.25%), the National Capital Region (33.25%), and Lucknow (33%). In comparison, another Bollywood release, Kesari Veer - a historical action film directed by Prince Dhiman and starring Suniel Shetty and Sooraj Pancholi - earned just Rs 32 lakh on Sunday. Its total opening weekend collection stood at Rs 86 lakh. Meanwhile, Hollywood films like Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning and Final Destination: Bloodlines continue to perform steadily in Indian theatres. One of the challenges faced by Bhool Chuk Maa f is its short theatrical window. The film is set to release on Prime Video India on June 6 - just two weeks after its theatrical release. Despite this, Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning & Strategy at PVR INOX Limited, referred to Bhool Chuk Maaf as "a genuine hit." "Some wrote off #BhoolChukMaaf citing 'discount offers' or 'lack of appeal' The box office tells a very different story - it's a genuine HIT May has revived theatres, audiences are back in big numbers, and the big screens are booming all over the country," he posted on X. His statement comes shortly after PVR INOX approached the Bombay High Court over the producers' decision to release the film on OTT. The multiplex chain alleged that Maddock Films, the producers of Bhool Chuk Maaf, breached their contract by opting for an early digital release due to the national security situation following Operation Sindoor. According to PVR INOX, an agreement dated May 6 stated that the film would release in cinemas on May 9 and would not be released on any other platform for at least eight weeks. However, the producers terminated the agreement a day before the theatrical release and announced the film's OTT premiere on May 16.

Bhool Chuk Maaf box office collection day 3: Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi's film earns Rs 27.75 cr in opening weekend, breaks Emergency and The Diplomat records

Despite mixed reviews and an exceptionally short theatrical window, debutant director Karan Sharma's romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf seems to be picking up well at the domestic box office. The Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer finally hit double digits on Sunday, securing a decent opening weekend. Bhool Chuk Maaf collected Rs 11.25 crore on Sunday, its highest single-day collection since its release on Friday. On the opening day, it earned Rs 7 crore. It picked up a little on Saturday, garnering Rs 9.5 crore. With its day 3 collection, the film has registered a further spike in earnings. As per Sacnilk, Bhool Chuk Maaf has secured an opening weekend total of Rs 27.75 crore. Thus, it has crossed the Rs 25 crore mark in less than three days. If it's able to sustain the momentum and pass the crucial Monday test, the film will most likely cross the Rs 30 crore mark today. As a result, Bhool Chuk Maaf has surpassed the box office collection of Kangana Ranaut's period political drama Emergency (Rs 20.48 crore) and the opening weekend box office collection of John Abraham-starrer thriller The Diplomat (Rs 13.30 crore). Both films released earlier this year. On Sunday, Bhool Chuk Maaf registered the highest occupancy in the evening shows (43.96%), followed by the afternoon shows (35.51%), the night shows (29.05%), and the morning shows (11.50%). As per regions, it scored the maximum occupancy in Chennai (86%), followed by Jaipur (38.75%), Bengaluru (37.25%), National Capital Region (33.25%), and Lucknow (33%). One of the other Bollywood releases, Prince Dhiman's historical action film Kesari Veer, starring Suniel Shetty and Sooraj Pancholi, managed to garner only Rs 32 lakh on Sunday, leading to a dismal opening weekend domestic box office collection of Rs 86 lakh. Holdover Hollywood releases like Tom Cruise's Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning and Final Destination Bloodlines continue to hold the fort in India. Bhool Chuk Maaf faced probably the biggest threat to the box office performance of a film today — a short theatrical window. In just two weeks on June 6, the film will drop on Prime Video India. With the audience getting to enjoy the film within the comforts of their home in just a fortnight, it didn't make conventional sense that they'd step out to watch the film in theatres. So much so that Kamal Gianchandani, Chief Business Planning & Strategy at PVR INOX Limited, on Sunday declared Bhool Chuk Maaf 'a genuine hit.' 'Some wrote off #BhoolChukMaaf citing 'discount offers' or 'lack of appeal'😇 The box office tells a very different story — it's a genuine HIT💥 May has revived theatres, audiences are back in big numbers, and the big screens are booming all over the country. 🎬🔥,' he wrote on X. This shoutout comes days after the multiplex chain had moved the Bombay High Court challenging the film's producer's decision to release it on OTT instead of theatres due to the heightened national security concerns amid the India-Pakistan conflict following Operation Sindoor two weeks ago. PVR Inox alleged a breach of contract by Dinesh Vijan's Maddock Films. As per the agreement dated May 6, the film was to release in cinemas across India on May 9 and would not be released on OTT or any other platform for a period of eight weeks thereafter, it said. But the producers terminated the agreement just a day before the release and announced an OTT release on May 16. PVR Inox also withdrew its demand of compensation worth Rs 25 crore.

‘Bhool Chuk Maaf': Rajkummar Rao, Wamiqa Gabbi film set for theatrical release

Bhool Chuk Maaf, the Rajkummar Rao and Wamiqa Gabbi-starrer time loop comedy, will now release in theatres and not on OTT, producer Dinesh Vijan said on Thursday. Vijan's production banner Maddock Films had recently announced that the movie will skip its theatrical release on May 9 and get a digital release on Prime Video on May 16 due to the recent events and the heightened security drills across the nation following Operation Sindoor. The multiplex chain PVRINOX had moved the court challenging its producers' decision to release it on Prime Video directly. PVRINOX Limited (PVRINOX), Maddock Films Pvt. Ltd. (Maddock), and Amazon MGM Studios have reached an understanding and now the movie will be released in theatres on May 23, 2025. 'As our surroundings begin to heal, we're especially grateful to offer a theatrical experience for a film that speaks from the heart. In these times, when family means everything, we urge audiences to head to theatres with their loved ones, share a laugh, reflect on life, and enjoy a story that, we hope, brings joy. Haldi se aage badhegi Ranjan ki gaadi? In cinemas on 23rd May. — Maddockfilms (@MaddockFilms) May 15, 2025 "We're also incredibly thankful to our exhibitors as partners for their continued support, flexibility, and commitment to theatrical storytelling. The release environment has changed for the better, and we're proud to collaborate once again with them for our film's release," Vijan said in a statement.
