Seahawks draft Miami RB Damien Martinez at No. 223 overall
The Seattle Seahawks are sending a message loud and clear for 2025: they want to run the ball. The latest piece of evidence in defense of this claim is the fact they drafted Miami running back Damien Martinez in the 7th round at pick No. 223 overall. Martinez joins former teammate Elijah Arroyo as the 2nd Hurricane standout picked by the Seahawks this weekend.
At 6-foot-0 tall and 217 lbs., Martinez is a bruiser. A three-year starter between Oregon State (where he was the Pac-12 Offensive Freshman of the year in 2022, and first team All-Pac-12 in 2022 and 2023) and Miami, Martinez rushed for 3,169 yards and 26 touchdowns at the collegiate level. He never had less than 982 yards on the ground in any given year, and that was his freshman season.
Martinez played in all 13 games for the Hurricanes last season, and started 10 of them. He earned Honorable Mention All-ACC honors for his 1,002 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns - a career best. Martinez is now thrown in the mix alongside Kenneth Walker III, Zach Charbonnet, Kenny McIntosh and George Holani. It is going to be an internal dogfight just to get carries on this Seattle roster in 2025.
