John Mellencamp calls out Pat McAfee for trashing Knicks' celebrity fans: ‘I was embarrassed'

This one hurts so bad. John Mellencamp has taken Pat McAfee to task for his foul-mouthed rant on the Knicks' celebrity fans that attended Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals Tuesday night in Indianapolis. 'The Knicks/Pacers games have been very entertaining for anyone who likes basketball or sports. I attended Game 4 in Indianapolis,' Mellencamp, the Hall of Fame singer-songwriter and Indiana native, wrote on social media. Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images ''Hoosier Hospitality' …I was embarrassed when somebody, under whose direction I don't know, called out some of the people who had made the trip from New York to support their team — and in turn, support our team. The audience booed these people. I'd say that was not Hoosier Hospitality. One could only say it's poor, poor sportsmanship. I was not proud to be a Hoosier, and I've lived here my entire life. Advertisement 'On behalf of most Hoosiers, I would like to apologize for our poor behavior. I'm sure the Pacers had nothing to do with this smackdown.' McAfee, the former Colts punter and current WWE commentator whose eponymous ESPN show is filmed in Indianapolis, was given a microphone to speak to the crowd during the fourth quarter of the Pacers' win on Tuesday and let the Knicks' celebrity fans have it. 'Indianapolis, Indiana, we've got some bigwigs from the big city in the building,' McAfee began. Advertisement 'Spike Lee is here. Ben Stiller is here. Timothée Chalamet is here,' he continued, with fans booing after each name. 'Let's send these sons of bitches back to New York with their ears ringing. Let's turn this s–t up!' 3 Timothée Chalamet (l.) and Ben Stiller (r.) pose for a photo before Game 4 of the Knicks-Pacers series on May 27, 2025. Trevor Ruszkowski-Imagn Images McAfee addressed Mellencamp's comments Thursday on X, stating, 'I am 'somebody'.' Stiller seemed surprised by McAfee's comments during an appearance on SNY's 'The Putback.' Advertisement 'I did know that Timothée had been on his show. And I was like, 'Oh, that's your boy. That's your guy.' So when that happened, I was a little bit like, 'Whoa.' But the WWE aspect of it, I get it. It's just not the way it happens in New York. He should come to the Garden for Game 5,' Stiller said Wednesday. 'They'll put him up on the screen and they'll show him punting the ball and everybody will give him a nice cheer,' Stiller added. 'That's how we do it in New York. But I get it, it was fun. He was just trying to get the crowd riled up. It was a little bit out of the blue. It's also like, are we really doing the narrative of 'Hicks versus Knicks'? Like the bigwigs from New York? It just seems a little cartoonish. But then again, it goes with the WWE.' The Pacers won the game, 130-121, to take a 3-1 series lead heading into Thursday night's Game 5 at MSG. The winner of the series will face the Thunder in the 2025 NBA Finals starting next Thursday.

Kevin Durant Future Directly Tied to Giannis Antetokounmpo: Report

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. Two of the biggest names in the NBA could be on the move this summer. That would be Milwaukee Bucks star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and Phoenix Suns star forward Kevin Durant. More NBA news: Knicks' Karl-Anthony Towns Lands on Injury Report Ahead of Crucial Game 5 Both players have seen their names in plenty of trade rumors as the NBA offseason gets going. Many expect Durant to be moved after another year of underperforming with the Suns, while Antetokounmpo is weighing his future in Milwaukee. But according to NBA insider Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Durant's future could be directly tied to Antetokounmpo. "First up will be Giannis, whether or not he leaves Milwaukee, that will be a big thing," Windhorst said. "And then, I really do think Kevin Durant's going to have to wait for Giannis, because there's going to be some teams who are interested in both, so then KD." For both players, there will be a massive number of trade suitors. But the ones who miss out on Antetokounmpo could then pivot over to Durant. More NBA news: Lakers Could Be in Position to Land Perfect Luka Doncic Co-Star While Durant is still one of the better players in the NBA today, he will be 37 by the time next season starts. Durant can still help a team win, but his trade value will be significantly lower than what teams will pay to land the services of Antetokounmpo. "So what I think you're going to see is a number of teams looking to aggressively either upgrade their rosters or offload money, and the series of ripple effects from what could be a Giannis trade and then a KD trade could be wide-ranging," Windhorst said. "You could have a number of teams reacting to that, with star players becoming available." More Photo byWith both players potentially becoming available this summer, we could see major movement around the NBA. Normally, multiple stars of this level don't move around the league so easily, but this summer feels different. With the new CBA restrictions now in place, teams could look to offload salaries at a higher rate, giving more drama to an already dramatic league. It should be a wild offseason, and we could be seeing some massive deals go down in the coming months. NBA Champion Says Timberwolves Should Target This Anthony Edwards Co-Star

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Minnesota Timberwolves have made an impressive playoff run to the Western Conference Finals for the second straight year. While they are still alive as of this writing and are currently in the middle of facing elimination in Game 5 against the Oklahoma City Thunder, it's clear they're missing a piece. Anthony Edwards is one of the biggest superstars in the NBA. However, the Timberwolves need to bring in a player who can take pressure off of him. Minnesota has some solid pieces around Edwards, but it does not have a player who can take over a game. The Timberwolves could change that this offseason. Anthony Edwards #5 of the Minnesota Timberwolves celebrates during the second half in game one of the Western Conference First Round Playoffs against the Phoenix Suns at Target Center on April 20, 2024 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. More Photo byWho could Minnesota target to support Edwards? Kendrick Perkins, an NBA champion himself, has spoken out with the player he thinks would be a perfect fit. Read more: Lakers Receive Stern Warning Amid Austin Reaves Trade Rumors During a segment on the "Road Tripping Podcast," Perkins shared that he thinks Kevin Durant would be the move the Timberwolves should target. "I believe so... I think Ant needs KD, and I think KD needs Ant," Perkins said. Durant has been mentioned in a lot of trade rumors since before the trade deadline this year. He was discussed in trade talks, but the Phoenix Suns opted not to trade him in the middle of the season. Throughout the course of the 2024-25 NBA season with the Suns, Durant played in 62 games. He averaged 26.6 points per game to go along with six rebounds, 4.2 assists, and 1.2 blocks, while shooting 52.7 percent from the floor and 43 percent from three-point range. It would be very expensive to trade for a player of Durant's status. However, it's the kind of move that could put Minnesota over the top and into the NBA Finals. Read more: NBA Legend Drops Bold Tyrese Haliburton Claim After Pacers-Knicks Game 4 At 36 years old, Durant is slowly winding down his career. Despite his age, he's still one of the most feared offensive players in the league. Bringing him in for one final run would be a wise move if the Timberwolves can make it. Opposing defenses would have their hands full trying to defend against the explosiveness of Edwards and the size and scoring ability of Durant. Minnesota may not have interest in attempting to make a move for Durant, but Perkins likes the fit. Expect to hear a lot of rumors about the Timberwolves when the NBA offseason gets underway.
