Woman gets life term for murder of four-year-old in Kadiyapattinam
Padmanabhapuram Additional Sessions Court on Thursday sentenced a woman to life imprisonment for the 2022 murder of a four year old boy in Kadiyapattinam. Her husband was sentenced to three years in prison for aiding in concealing the crime.
According to the prosecution, the incident took place when Johan Riji, 4 went missing while playing outside his home. A complaint was filed by his mother Sahaya Silija at the Manavalakurichi police station.
During the investigation, their neighbor Fatima was found to have murdered the child to steal the gold and silver jewellery he was wearing. Police later recovered his body inside an almirah at her house.
Interrogations revealed where Fatima had tried to rob the boy of the valuables. However when the boy resisted and raised an alarm, Fatima strangled him to death.
Based on the evidence, the police altered the case and charged the accused under IPC sections 34, 302, 364, 342 201, 369, and 379 were added and a final charge sheet was filed in court .
The trial for the case took place at the Padmanabhapuram Additional Sessions Court, which sentenced Fatima to life imprisonment and her husband Sarobin to three years imprisonment.
