Kuantan welcomes Zaliza as new mayor
KUANTAN: State Islamic Religious Department (Jaip) director Datuk Zaliza Zulkipli has been appointed as the new Kuantan mayor. He succeeds Datuk Razihan Adzharuddin, who has been appointed as the Pahang Land and Mines Office director. Zaliza had previously served as the Kuantan and Pekan district officer before being named as Jaip director in December last year. He is the third person to hold the position of Kuantan mayor since the Kuantan Municipal Council was elevated to city status and became the Kuantan City Council on Feb 21, 2021. In a Facebook post, the Pahang Government announced that Comptroller of the Royal Household of the Sultan of Pahang, Datuk Ahmad Khirrizal Ab Rahman, has been appointed as the new Jaip director. Former Jerantut district officer Datuk Sharuddin Jali has been appointed as the new Kuantan district officer, while Sulaiman Husin will take over Sharuddin's previous role in Jerantut. Jaip chief digital officer Rizal Mustafa has been appointed as the Temerloh Municipal Council president, replacing Datuk Suris Mihat, who is now serving as the Pahang Barat Plus Regional Economic Development Council chief executive officer. Kuantan district officer Datuk Aida Munira Abdul Rafar has been appointed as Pahang State Secretary Incorporated chief executive officer. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail, in a Facebook post following the presentation of appointment letters today, expressed hope that the newly appointed officers would help ensure smooth and efficient administration for the benefit of the people.

Indonesian detained for illegal gold mining in Lipis
LIPIS: The state enforcement unit detained an Indonesian for illegal gold mining in Kampung Temin near here on Thursday (April 24). Four other syndicate members at the site fled into nearby forest during the 2pm raid. Unit head Saifullah Muhammad Ali said the syndicate was using the palong mining technique, which involves sluicing gold with gravel pumps. "The Pahang Land and Mines Office confirmed the mining site had no approval or permit from the authorities. "We seized excavators, water pumps and palong. "The suspect was remanded for four days until today at the Lipis police headquarters. We are tracking down the remaining four suspects."
