'Hey Neighbour'! Leon Thomas is coming to rock the festival stage
Grammy Award-winning artist, Leon Thomas, will be performing at the second 'Hey Neighbour' music festival alongside Doja Cat. Image: Supplied. The "Hey Neighbour" music festival is gearing up for a spectacular comeback on August 30 and 31. Earlier this year, festival organisers announced that award-winning artist Doja Cat will be shutting down the neighbourhood, and now, they have added US singer-songwriter Leon Thomas to the spectacular line-up. This will be Doja Cat's first time performing in South Africa, and word on the social media streets suggests that she's coming because her biological actor father, Dumisani Dlamini, is from the country. Renowned for her genre-defying sound, chart-topping hits and captivating stage presence, Doja Cat has taken the music world by storm with smash hits like "Say So", "Kiss Me More", "Paint the Town Red", and "Woman". During an interview with Apple Music's Ebro Darden back in 2024, the superstar said: "I still haven't been (to South Africa). I rely on my career to just throw me out to places. I don't find pockets of time in my life. I can fly, but I don't like flying, especially long flights like that." Meanwhile, Thomas, who is no stranger to the entertainment industry, is set to perform on the festival's second day. Having graced Broadway stages from a young age, Thomas captivated audiences in productions like "The Lion King" and "Caroline, or Change". However, his breakthrough came when he starred as André Harris in Nickelodeon's hit TV show "Victorious", alongside Victoria Justice and Ariana Grande. Beyond this, Thomas has collaborated with numerous major artists and has writing and production credits on multiple Grammy-nominated projects. He's popular for songs like "Yes It Is", "Rather Be Alone" and "Vibes Don't Lie", among others. His work with Babyface and Toni Braxton on the album "Love, Marriage & Divorce" has earned him his first Grammy Award. In 2023, the festival mesmerised over 60 000 music lovers with an extraordinary line-up that featured both local and international stars, including the likes of Tyla, Kendrick Lamar, Zakes Bantwini, Swedish House Mafia, Khalid, and H.E.R. This year, organisers have promised an even bigger and bolder festival. "To spice it up even more, we've taken all the magic of the 2023 fest and combined the previously announced three-day fest into two high-impact, high-energy-filled days of music, culture, and, of course, connection. "Ideally, we, your neighbours, are encouraging you to groove harder, sing louder and create the best, most authentic memories possible," read a statement from the festival. Festival-goers can brace themselves for even more excitement when the local line-up and perhaps a sprinkle of even more international star power is announced in June.

The Best Makeup in Grammys History: Kim Kardashian, Miley Cyrus, Cher and More Iconic Red Carpet Looks
The 67th annual Grammy Awards will soon be upon us — and so, too, will the striking makeup looks donned by its A-list attendees. Last year, it was Miley Cyrus' rocker-chic glam by makeup artist James Kaliardos that stole the show, developed using Pat McGrath Labs products to complement her custom Maison Martin Margiela gown made of gold safety pins. More from WWD Kristen Stewart Does Sheer Chanel Dressing With a Dash of Sparkle for the 'Love Me' Los Angeles Movie Screening Renée Zellweger Embraces Allover Lace in Saint Laurent Dress for 'Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy' Premiere in Paris Victoria Beckham's Beauty Brand Has a New CEO Other memorable looks of late have included 'Paint the Town Red' rapper Doja Cat's 2021 all-black smoky eye, or when Ariana Grande in 2020 paired her icy-blond locks with a nude-toned makeup look, giving her then-signature cat-eye flick an elevated boost. But the Grammy Awards have long seen their fair share of iconic looks — from Lil' Kim's many full-glam (and often, color-coordinated) appearances to mohawk-era Rihanna's 2010 frosty eye shadow and lip gloss to boot. This year, Trevor Noah will host the Grammy Awards, where nominees for Album of the Year include Beyoncé's 'Cowboy Carter,' Charli XCX's summer anthem-filled 'Brat,' Taylor Swift's 'The Tortured Poets Department' and more. Pop newcomer Chappell Roan — known for her dramatic makeup flair — is nominated for seven awards, among them Best New Artist, Album of the Year, Record of the Year and more. SZA, meanwhile, nabbed two nominations for Best R&B Song and Best R&B Performance, as did Childish Gambino, for Best Progressive R&B Album and Best Dance/Electronic Recording. Paint the Town Red: Kennebunks celebrate romance with events, deals, and getaways
KENNEBUNK, Maine — How would you like to learn how to cook and enjoy a meal filled with aphrodisiacs? Or craft a charcuterie board during a fun and relaxing woodworking class? Or how about dining on a 'red plate' special at a local restaurant or taking advantage of 'red tag' sales at nearby shops? Put another way, how would you like to paint the town red in February? The Kennebunk-Kennebunkport-Arundel Chamber of Commerce, the Biddeford-Saco Chamber of Commerce, and local businesses once again are teaming up for their annual Paint the Town Red celebration, a monthlong tribute to romance filled with everything mentioned above and more. Laura Dolce, executive director of the Kennebunk-Kennebunkport-Arundel Chamber, called the coming weeks a chance for residents and visitors to enjoy 'many more options for winter fun.' Paint the Town Red has fun events planned for almost every day in February, according to Jamie Barth, the social media and marketing associate for the chamber. And yes, just like a Valentine's heart, Kennebunk and Kennebunkport will be decked out in red with lights and decorations. The Lobster Trap Tree in Cape Porpoise, for example, will be decorated with hearts painted by local artists, Barth said. Barth added that two local businesses, Caring Community Cuisine and Mainely Makers Studio, are taking part in Paint the Town Red with their own events for their very first time. 'Both are very interesting and launching a renewal of previously successful businesses,' Barth said. Caring Community Cuisine is the one offering that class on how to cook up a plate of aphrodisiacs. Located at 2 Pier Road in Cape Porpoise, the new nonprofit restaurant will offer the class on Saturday, Feb. 8, at 4 p.m. Dinner will follow. Tickets cost $80, which covers the cooking class, the dinner, and a 'takeaway treat,' according to Selena Roy, one of the owners of the restaurant. The class will focus on a cooking technique that guests can try at home, Roy said. 'After guests arrive and receive a welcome drink containing pomegranate, we will first focus on opening oysters and creating a rose mignonette to accompany them,' Roy said. 'After, we plan to demonstrate how to properly butcher a salmon filet and prepare artichokes. As a final touch, we will show how to prepare a Maine blueberry mousse, one component of a blueberry and chocolate mousse duo served for dessert.' All of the ingredients are nutritious and have been specifically chosen to suit the occasion, according to Roy. 'Guys and Dolls,' 'Titanic' and more: Ogunquit Playhouse announces 2025 season lineup Oysters, Roy said, are rich in zinc, a mineral required for testosterone production. Pomegranate juice is known for boosting salivary testosterone levels, she added. Both can help with 'heightened mood,' she said. As for the dessert, Roy said dark chocolate contains phenylethylamine, which 'elicits feelings of excitement and well-being,' and anandamide, which boosts serotonin levels. 'These are all considered aphrodisiacs,' Roy said. Roy added that the restaurant wants to hold an event geared towards Valentine's Day, which this year falls on a date-night-perfect Friday. 'We are ... hoping some of the techniques can be replicated closer to the holiday to make for a special and memorable meal anyone can prepare at home for loved ones,' she added. To register for the event, visit the restaurant's "events" tab on its website. More: Clipper Tavern and Jitto's owners to bring hippie Vibe to York Village Also, on Feb. 8, Mainely Makers Workshop will hold its grand opening at its new location at 3 Warrens Way in West Kennebunk, giving people a chance to enjoy a demonstration on how to carve a special Valentine's Day charcuterie board. The studio's open house that day will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Then, on Valentine's Day itself, you can have an opportunity to carve a heart-shaped charcuterie board of your own at the studio, during an event that will be a "fun thing for singles and couples alike," according to Donald Oakes, who owns and operates the business. The class will be held on Friday, Feb. 14, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. The cost of $99 covers materials and drinks. Reservations may be made by visiting online at and by clicking on the "Classes and Products" link. In addition to these two newcomers, numerous restaurants in the Kennebunks and Biddeford-Saco – fine dining, pizza joints, and sub shops among them – are offering 'red plate' deals throughout February. Some establishments require reservations, while other spots you can just stroll on in. Shops offering 'red tag' deals are even more in number in the weeks ahead. Gift shops, craft stores, spas, salons, and more are all helping to paint their towns red. And, of course, all sorts of fun activities are planned: parties, a night of painting, mixology classes, raffles, ghost stories, author visits, exercise and meditation classes, art events, and more, all month long, starting as soon as this Saturday, Feb. 1, and lasting all through Feb. 27. And if you're looking to truly get away — not just head out on a date but stay overnight — there are many lodgings offering all sorts of opportunities: The Boathouse Waterfront Hotel; Cape Arundel Inn and Resort; Ferry Beach Retreat; The Kennebunkport Inn, which will have a Murder Mystery Weekend; and the getaway destinations of KPort Concierge.
