Pakistan, Bahrain military leaders discuss regional security, bilateral cooperation
ISLAMABAD: The top military officials of Pakistan and Bahrain discussed regional security and ways to strengthen bilateral military cooperation to meet security challenges, Pakistan's military said on Tuesday. General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Isa Bin Salman Al Khalifa, the commander of the National Guard of Bahrain, met Pakistan's Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir at the General Headquarters (GHQ) in Rawalpindi, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Pakistani military's media wing, said. Al Khalifa praised Pakistan Army's professionalism and appreciated their efforts in combating 'terrorism,' the ISPR said. 'During the meeting, both leaders engaged in discussions on matters of mutual interest, the regional security landscape, and avenues for strengthening bilateral military cooperation,' the military's media wing said. Munir underscored the significance of enhanced collaboration in addressing shared security challenges and fostering peace and stability in the region, the ISPR added. Bahrain is a key member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), and a favorite destination for the Pakistani workforce since the early 1970s, according to Pakistan's foreign ministry. Pakistan enjoys cordial relations with Gulf countries and regularly partakes in bilateral military drills with them to foster joint cooperation to counter security challenges. Both countries have established a Joint Ministerial Commission (JMC) at the level of the foreign ministers, with the Pakistan-Bahrain trade volume between $500 million and $1 billion in recent years, as per Pakistan's foreign ministry.

He highlighted that Pakistan and Bahrain share strong historical, religious, and cultural ties, and emphasized the importance of enhancing people-to-people exchanges to further strengthen diplomatic and economic cooperation. 'Parliamentary exchanges play a crucial role in deepening our relationship, and such initiatives will contribute to strengthening the already strong brotherly ties between Pakistan and Bahrain,' Prime Minister Sharif stated. Call for Bahraini investment in Pakistan The prime minister encouraged Bahraini investors to take advantage of the business-friendly environment in Pakistan, stressing the country's vast potential in various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and technology. He also acknowledged the significant contributions of the Pakistani diaspora in Bahrain, who play a vital role in different industries and services. He further stressed the need to increase the current trade volume between Pakistan and Bahrain, calling for enhanced economic collaboration to benefit both countries. Discussion on Palestine and Gaza crisis Prime Minister Sharif also urged Pakistan, Bahrain, and the wider Muslim world to intensify their collective efforts to support the people of Palestine and Gaza. He reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people and called for greater humanitarian assistance and diplomatic initiatives to address the crisis. Key Officials Present at the Meeting The high-level meeting was also attended by Speaker of the National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi, and senior government officials, who engaged in discussions on strengthening Pakistan-Bahrain cooperation across multiple sectors.
