IMF says next Pakistan funding review expected in second half of 2025

May 23 (Reuters) - The IMF expects the next funding review for Pakistan in the second half of 2025 and said it would continue discussions with Pakistan authorities towards agreeing over terms of the budget for the 2026 financial year, it said in a statement on Friday. The IMF's priority remains anchoring inflation within the central bank's medium-term target range of 5–7 percent, the statement said, adding that the Pakistani authorities reaffirmed their commitment to fiscal consolidation while aiming for a primary surplus of 1.6 percent of GDP in FY2026.

After days of heavy firefights, calm reported along Indian and Pakistan borders NEW DELHI (AP) — Indian and Pakistani authorities said on Monday that there were no reported incidents of firing overnight along the heavily militarized region between their countries, the first time in recent days that the two nations were not shooting at each other. India and Pakistan on Saturday reached an understanding to stop all military actions on land, in the air and at the sea, in a U.S.-brokered ceasefire to stop escalating hostilities between the two nuclear-armed rivals that threatened regional peace. 'The night remained largely peaceful across Jammu and Kashmir, and other areas along the international border,' the Indian army said in a statement, adding that no incidents had been reported.
