Kanchan Sao was returning home with her parents and her sibling on her father's motorcycle when it dashed with a car at Chouwa Chatan on Wednesday night. Binod died on the spot, while Kanchan and two others were hospitalised.
The TOI, in its report on June 2, had highlighted that pressure swing absorption (PSA) plant at the hospital has been out of order amid rising Covid 19 cases in the state. Kanchan's family members alleged that she could not be taken to a higher medical centre as the driver of the lone ambulance in the hospital was missing and had taken vehicle's keys with him.
Locals protested outside the hospital and blocked road. The blockade was lifted following the assurances of district officials and the police to the agitators. Speaking to TOI,Palamu civil surgeon Dr Anil Kumar said, "The allegations of non-availability of oxygen are serious and being probed. The Kolkata-based engineers have been requested to come and set up the PSA plant again, but they are dilly-dallying."
No oxygen was available and the on-duty doctor was also absent, Kanchan's kin alleged. "I will investigate the matter and recommend stringent actions. The medical officer in-charge of the hospital will also be replaced, if needed," Dr Kumar further said.
"Directives have been given for speedy probe for fixing accountability of the erring hospital officials and staff," deputy commissioner Sameera S said.
