Women's Futsal AFCON / Group B: Angola More Clinical Than Guinea

The opening match of the inaugural Women's Futsal Africa Cup of Nations saw Angola come out top with an impressive 5-2 victory over Guinea in Rabat, Morocco. Right from kick-off, both sides made their intentions clear. Angola's high press caught Guinea's still-settling defence off guard, and it took just seconds for Joyce to break the deadlock (1st minute), capping off a blistering start. But the Syli Féminin quickly responded in the 6th minute, as Soumah capitalised on a lightning-quick counterattack to level the score (1–1). Angola Take Control The rest of the first half swung in favour of the Palancas Negras. In the 12th minute, Lurdinha restored Angola's lead with a pinpoint free kick. Just two minutes later, mounting pressure saw Guinea falter again as Bangoura unintentionally turned the ball into her own net (14th minute, 3–1). The momentum was fully with Angola, and Guinea struggled to respond effectively. After the break, Mame Fatoumata Baldé's team adjusted their positioning and tightened their defence. Their efforts paid off when Bangoura, making up for her earlier mishap, scored to reduce the deficit (3–2). Hope was reignited for the Syli Féminin, but the closing minutes once again belonged to Angola. Joyce netted her second of the match in the 37th minute, and Djamila sealed the win just a minute later (38th minute, 5–2). With this convincing victory, Angola temporarily tops the group after the opening day of the competition. Their next fixture is on Thursday against Egypt, a match that could confirm their place in the next round. Guinea, on the other hand, will have to beat the Pharaohs on 26 April to keep their hopes alive in this tightly contested group.

Liyun's hat-trick inspires Angola to 6-1 win and U17 World Cup playoff

Published: Monday, 07 April 2025 Densel Liyun struck a sensational hat-trick as Angola stormed to a 6-1 victory over Central African Republic in their final Group D match at the TotalEnergies CAF U-17 Africa Cup of Nations on Monday. Liyun's clinical display fired Angola to a resounding win at the Stade Ben Ahmed El Abdi, earning them third place in the group and a coveted playoff spot for the FIFA U-17 World Cup to be held in Qatar later this year. Despite falling short of a quarter-final berth, Angola's commanding performance underlined their attacking prowess and determination to keep their World Cup hopes alive. Lucas opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 13th minute after Omar was brought down in the box. Liyun then took centre stage, netting his first goal of the night in the 26th minute with a calm finish from the centre of the area after being set up by Jayden Puna. The second half belonged firmly to the young Palancas Negras. Liyun added his second in the 63rd minute before Jairo Muanha made it 4-0 moments later with a composed finish from Lucas' through ball. Although VAR briefly denied Liyun his hat-trick for handball, he eventually completed the treble in the 69th minute with a clinical strike to make it 5-0 — a standout moment in a dominant individual performance. Muanha grabbed his second and Angola's sixth in added time to complete the rout, while Anan Otto scored a consolation goal for Central African Republic in the 87th minute. Elsewhere in Group D, Côte d'Ivoire defeated Mali 4-2 to leapfrog them into first place with seven points. Mali, who had already qualified for the quarter-finals, finished second on six points. Both sides join Angola in booking tickets to the World Cup.
