Israeli strike on Gaza hospital kills three journalists
LONDON: Three journalists were killed and four others injured in an Israeli strike on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital's courtyard in central Gaza, drawing condemnations from media rights groups. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said the attack struck a media tent and identified the victims as Ismail Badah, a cameraman for Palestine Today TV channel, which is affiliated with the Islamic Jihad militant group; Soliman Hajaj, a Palestine Today editor; and Samir A-Refai of the Shams News network. The strike injured 30 others, including four journalists. Among them were Imad Daloul, a correspondent for Palestine Today, and Ahmed Qalja, a cameraman for Qatar-based Al-Araby TV, both are reported to be in critical condition. The syndicate accused Israel of 'a full-fledged war crime' that 'reflects a deliberate and systematic policy aimed at silencing the Palestinian narrative.' It said that targeting journalists 'within the grounds of a hospital constitutes a grave violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions.' The Israeli military said in a statement that the strike targeted 'an Islamic Jihad terrorist who was operating in a command-and-control center' in the hospital's yard, without providing details or evidence. In a statement on Thursday, the Committee to Protect Journalists condemned the attack, calling for international action to stop Israel from targeting journalists 'based on unsubstantiated terrorism claims.' CPJ regional director Sara Qudah said: 'These are not isolated incidents, but systematic attacks by Israel on the media. This disturbing and deliberate pattern must end. 'The killing of journalists in a hospital courtyard on the holy day of Yawm Al-Arafah — preceding Eid Al-Adha — underscores the relentless dangers facing the media in Gaza.'

To date, nearly 200 journalists have been killed by the Israeli military. Many more have been injured and face constant threats to their lives for doing their jobs: bearing witness. A Humanitarian Tragedy: 219 Palestinian Journalists Killed in Gaza Since Start of War - Jordan News
The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate has condemned the Israeli occupation forces for continuing their systematic policy of targeting and killing journalists, committing repeated massacres against them and their families. These acts have led to the death of 219 journalists and media workers, according to a report published Sunday by the Palestinian News Agency (WAFA). اضافة اعلان The report states that among the 219 killed, 30 were female journalists, and one journalist was killed in the West Bank. The occupation continues to target Palestinian journalists and their families, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Since October 7, 2023, at least 430 journalists have been wounded by Israeli gunfire and missile attacks, and no fewer than 685 family members of journalists in Gaza have been killed. 1,000 Displaced Journalists The Syndicate reported that around 1,000 journalists in Gaza are living in conditions of repeated displacement from the north to the south of the strip. They face severe hardships due to lack of safety, constant targeting of their shelters by Israeli airstrikes, and dire living conditions, including the absence of electricity and internet, which hinders their ability to work. In coordination with prisoner rights organizations, the Syndicate also documented the arrest of 180 journalists by Israeli authorities since October 2023. This number includes 17 female journalists, all of whom have since been released, and 39 journalists from Gaza. 42 journalists have been sentenced to administrative detention, while 48 remain in custody across the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem and Gaza. Additionally, six journalists arrested before October 2023 are still detained. Enforced Disappearance The Syndicate stressed that Israel continues the practice of enforced disappearance of Palestinian journalists. It cited the cases of journalists Nidal Al-Wahidi and Haitham Abdulwahid, whose fate remains unknown. This constitutes a complete crime of enforced disappearance in violation of international and humanitarian law, including the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance, which entered into force in 2010. 115 Media Institutions Destroyed As part of its war on the media and efforts to suppress the truth, Israel has launched widespread air and ground attacks that have destroyed 115 media institutions in the Gaza Strip. This includes the entirety of Gaza's media infrastructure. In the West Bank, including occupied Jerusalem, Israel has shut down five media outlets and destroyed or closed 12 printing presses. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate affirmed its commitment to continue working with all international human rights and media organizations to protect journalists, ensure accountability for crimes committed, and stop what it described as Israel's genocidal war against Palestinian journalism. The Syndicate concluded that Israel has committed the largest massacre against the press in modern history.

Gaza: Israeli Occupation Kills 665 Relatives of Palestinian Journalists
DaysofPal—As Israeli genocide on the Gaza Strip enters its nineteenth month, a chilling pattern of systematic violence against the Palestinian press continues to emerge. Beyond targeting journalists themselves, the Israeli genocide has expanded its attacks to include the families of media workers, claiming the lives of 665 relatives of Palestinian journalists since October 7, 2023. According to a report by the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, 152 homes belonging to journalists or housing their families have been bombed since the outbreak of what many are calling a genocidal war. The campaign, observers say, is aimed not only at silencing the voices of resistance but at breaking the spirit of truth-tellers by wiping out their loved ones. 'The occupation is not only fighting the voice, the image, and the pen—it is waging war on the very existence of those who strive to convey the story of Gaza: its love, its war, and its life,' said the Freedoms Committee of the Syndicate in its latest statement. Journalists Killed on the Frontline—and at Home Just two days ago, journalists Nour al-Din Abdo and Yahya Subaih were killed in two separate Israeli airstrikes in Gaza City. One missile hit the al-Karama School in the al-Tuffah neighborhood, while another struck a popular market and restaurant in the al-Rimal area. Their deaths brought the total number of journalists killed since the war began to 214. Yahya Subaih was reportedly martyred on the same day his daughter was born, leaving behind a memory that is both devastating and emblematic of the personal tragedies endured by Gaza's media professionals. Families Erased Alongside the Truth The targeting of journalists' families is not incidental—it is systematic. Between January and April 2025, the Freedoms Committee documented the killing of 26 relatives of journalists in bombings that destroyed 18 journalist-owned homes. In January alone, Israeli airstrikes hit nine homes, killing the families of journalists such as Rami Abu Taima, Omar Al-Diraoui, and Ahlam Al-Taluli. In March, four houses belonging to journalists Hussam al-Titi, Adly Abu Taha, Mohammed Mansour, and Moaz Muqdad were hit, killing 10 civilians, including multiple family members. In April, five more homes were bombed, killing relatives of Rasha Ahmed, Salma Qaddoumi, photographer Fatima Hassouna, and journalists Ahmed and Sami Harara. A Deadly Timeline 2023: 63 homes bombed, killing 436 relatives of journalists 2024: 71 homes bombed, killing 203 family members 2025 (First third): 18 homes bombed, 26 relatives killed In addition, the report notes that 12 journalists' homes have been completely destroyed, and 11 journalists have suffered fatal injuries this year alone. A Call to the World Human rights organizations and press freedom advocates are sounding the alarm about what they describe as a deliberate effort to eliminate Gaza's storytellers, both professionally and personally. 'This is not just about silencing voices,' said a spokesperson from Sanad News Agency, which contributed to the monitoring effort. 'It is about erasing memory, heritage, and truth from the fabric of Palestinian life.' As the death toll climbs and the targeting of media families intensifies, the international community faces growing pressure to investigate the Israeli crimes and uphold protections for journalists and civilians under international law. Palestinian Journalists Syndicate: Number of martyred journalists rises to (212)
Gaza - (Saba): The number of Palestinian journalists martyred as a result of the Zionist genocide in the Gaza Strip has risen to (212) journalists, both male and female, following the martyrdom of Yahya Subaih and Nour al-Din Abdo in the Strip on Wednesday. The Palestinian Journalists Syndicate said in a statement that this is a deliberate targeting aimed at breaking the voice of truth and silencing the Palestinian narrative through the policy of field executions of journalists, destroying media institutions, and depriving the world of witnessing what is happening in Gaza. It explained that "at a time when the world is celebrating World Press Freedom Day, and the slogan of protecting journalists and preserving freedom of expression is being raised, the Israeli enemy continues to commit its heinous crimes against Palestinian journalists, who are paying with their lives for conveying the truth and exposing the occupation's ongoing crimes against our people in the Gaza Strip." The Syndicate mourns with deep sorrow and grief the martyrdom of two colleagues: journalist Yahya Subaih, who was killed in a direct Israeli airstrike on the Thai restaurant west of Gaza City, just hours after the birth of his first child, and journalist Nour al-Din Abdo, who was killed in an Israeli airstrike targeting al-Karama School in the al-Tuffah neighborhood east of Gaza City while carrying out his professional and humanitarian duty of covering events. The Syndicate affirmed that this repeated and systematic targeting of journalists constitutes a full-fledged war crime under international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions, holding the occupation fully responsible for these flagrant violations. It called on the international community, the Security Council, and the International Criminal Court to take immediate action to open urgent investigations, hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable, and end the policy of impunity that encourages the enemy to persist in its crimes. The Syndicate continued in its statement: 'On World Press Freedom Day, which is supposed to be an occasion to promote the protection of journalists and freedom of expression, the Palestinian journalist is paying with his life because he chose to be a voice for the victims and an image of the truth. We call on all free journalists and media institutions in the world to stand with their colleagues in Palestine, raise their voices loudly against the crimes of the Israeli enemy, and support the Palestinian media, which is facing the aggression with an unbreakable will and a lens that does not neglect.'
