OGH doc devises painless treatment for hemorrhoids
Hyderabad: A general surgeon at the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) developed an innovative painless treatment for hemorrhoids (also known as piles). The treatment, developed by Dr Pallam Praveen, professor and HOD of the Department of General Surgery, has been recognised and published in the International Journal of Surgery.
Named "Pallam's painless hybrid laser sandwich procedure," the treatment is devised for people suffering from grade-3 and grade-4 hemorrhoids.
The procedure combines the benefits of both conventional surgeries and laser surgeries, assuring faster relief to the patient with minimal invasion. While the traditional procedure gets complicated by incontinence surgery, prolonged pain, and recurrence, the new procedure swiftly reduces the pain with almost no recurrence.
Moreover, since it is sphincter-sparing surgery, there is no risk of incontinence, the hospital said.
"Patients undergoing this procedure can walk home on the same day," said Dr Praveen, who has successfully performed the new procedure in over 500 surgeries over the last four years. He was facilitated by Dr Rakesh Sahay, OGH Superintendent, who said that the treatment is a valuable contribution to the medical field.
