(KRON) – A mother's necklace and purse were taken from her while carrying her toddler, according to the Palo Alto Police Department. The robbery occurred in the 300 block of Hamilton Avenue in the University South neighborhood around 2:30 p.m. on Thursday. The victim was carrying her toddler and walking through a parking lot when a man grabbed her neck from behind and demanded her purse, police said. The assailant subsequently forcibly stole her purse and necklaces. After taking her belongings, he pushed her to the ground and fled the scene on foot. She then contacted authorities. Police and the Palo Alto Fire Department responded to the scene. 3 guns, knife found in Suisun City arrest: PD The victim said she felt pain in her knee and neck. However, the toddler was unharmed, according to Palo Alto PD. Paramedics treated the victim at the scene. The suspect is currently at large. The suspect, according to police, was described by the victim as a Hispanic man with short black hair and a thin build. He was wearing a blue shirt and blue shorts. Per Palo Alto PD, there have not been any recent similar incidents in the city. (KRON) — A Palo Alto woman is accused of a hate crime and battery after police said she spat on a man Saturday and continued to yell racial slurs at him in the presence of officers. The Palo Alto Police Department responded around 6 p.m. to the Lytton Plaza, located at 200 University Avenue, on the report of a fight in progress. Arriving officers found a man who reported that he had just been spit on by a woman. Investigating officers said the man, who is in his 60s, was seated in the plaza when a woman, later identified as Lisa Madden, 50, of Palo Alto, approached him. Madden allegedly spit on the man 'while shouting a racial epithet directed at Black people,' police said. Decapitated animals found on Fremont park bench The man, who authorities said feared for his safety, left the plaza following the incident. Officers detained Madden, who 'resumed shouting racial epithets toward the victim in the presence of officers,' PAPD said. Madden was arrested and booked into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for disturbing the peace, battery and a hate crime. She also had an outstanding felony arrest warrant for vandalism, police said. What we know The incident occurred Saturday around 6 p.m. at Lytton Plaza on University Avenue, where police responded to a report of a fight. At the scene, officers found a man in his 60s who had been attacked. Authorities said the victim was sitting in the plaza when he was approached by a woman who, without provocation, spit on him while shouting a racial epithet directed at Black people. The man left the plaza as the suspect continued yelling. Officers located the suspect, 50-year-old Lisa Madden, and arrested her on charges of battery and a hate crime. Police in Palo Alto are conducting a death investigation after getting a tip about the body of a deceased adult man found in the Byxbee Park area of the Baylands Nature Preserve early Friday morning. According to a press release issued by the Palo Alto Police Department , the police dispatch center received a call at around 8 a.m. from a passerby who reported a possible dead body at Byxbee Park, located at 2375 Embarcadero Rd. Police and Palo Alto Fire Department personnel responded to the location and confirmed that the person, an unidentified adult male, was deceased. The investigation revealed that the person who called in had noticed the body laying in a muddy tidal area near the Byxbee Park parking lot. Police noted they did not see any obvious signs of foul play and have no evidence at this time that any crime occurred, although the investigation is continuing. Authorities have not released the man's identity. That information will ultimately be made available by the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner. (KRON) — Authorities are warning about two at-large thieves targeting elderly victims, according to a press release Monday from the Palo Alto Police Department. Police reported two incidents that occurred on Friday. Detectives believe these incidents are related and will continue to investigate if these suspects are behind other similar crimes in the area, PAPD said. One victim was in their 80s and the other in their 70s. Both incidents involved a dark gray sedan.. According to PAPD, the theft, which victimized a man in his 80s, happened around 3 p.m. The victim was walking on the sidewalk when a dark gray sedan driven by a man with a female passenger pulled over next to the elderly man. Police said the woman was asking for directions, and the victim responded to seemingly help. The woman got out of the car to 'place jewelry on the victim.' The victim declined and pushed the woman away. The woman got back into the sedan, and the suspects drove off. However, according to PAPD, the victim returned home to later discover the woman had stolen his ring — which was valued at more than $1,000 — at the same time she tried to place the jewelry on him. The victim described the suspects as Middle Eastern, PAPD said. The female suspect was described as 'short and stocky' and wore a light-colored scarf over her hair. List: Bay Area JOANN stores closing part of more than 500 shutting down nationwide The second incident — an attempted theft — happened Friday afternoon around 4:30 p.m. near the intersection of Williams Street and Stanford Avenue. The victim, a woman in her 70s, told police that a dark gray sedan pulled up next to her as she was walking on the sidewalk, according to PAPD. The sedan was driven by a man and had a female passenger. The woman got out of the car and attempted to place jewelry on the elderly victim. PAPD said the victim refused to accept the jewelry and 'clung tightly' to her own jewelry in fear the female suspect was trying to steal from her. The suspect returned to the car and drove off with the male driver, police said. The victim described the suspects as Middle Eastern, providing the same description as the woman mentioned in the first incident. PAPD said the female suspect was 'short and stocky, wearing a light-colored head scarf over her hair.' Man convicted of murdering 15-year-old Palo Alto girl Although not definitive, PAPD believes the two incidents are related to each other.
