Postal worker robbed at gunpoint in Palos Verdes Estates, USPS keys still missing

Two people were arrested after a U.S. Postal Service worker was robbed at gunpoint in Palos Verdes Estates, officials announced Friday. It was around 5 p.m. on Thursday when the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department received a call reporting the armed robbery on Via Tejon, outside of the U.S. Post Office in Malaga Cove. Officers arrived and spoke with the victim, a USPS postal worker, who said he was gathering mail when one of the two suspects approached him. The suspect purportedly 'displayed a handgun' and demanded the USPS worker's keys and work phone. Police said the suspect took the keys and phone, got into a vehicle and fled the scene. 'About 30 minutes later, PVEPD officers located the suspect vehicle unoccupied and parked in Redondo Beach and conducted surveillance,' said the department in an Instagram post. Around 7:15 p.m., officers watched as a woman got into the suspect vehicle and drove away, followed closely by a second vehicle being driven by a man who police noticed matched the armed robbery suspect description. 'Officers conducted a felony traffic stop on both cars in Redondo Beach and took both suspects into custody without further incident,' said PVEPD. Although both suspects were arrested, police noted that the firearm and the stolen property remain outstanding. 'PVEPD detectives will continue to relentlessly investigate,' said the department's post. 'We would like to recognize the men and women who worked diligently and swiftly on this dynamic situation. Their hard work and dedication led to the arrest of two suspects.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

Police investigating possible child-luring attempt in Palos Verdes Estates

Police are investigating reports of a possible child-luring attempt in the Palos Verdes Estates area on Friday. They say that it happened at around 3:45 p.m. in the 2400 block of Via Pacheco, where a 10-year-old boy was walking home from Lunada Bay Elementary School, according to a release from Palos Verdes police. "He was approached by a female driver who offered him a ride twice and stated she would text his mother," the release said. The boy told police that she was the only person he could see inside of the car. He refused her requests, at which time a good Samaritan walking his dog through the area intervened. He asked the boy if he knew the woman. "The child told the good Samaritan that he did not," police said. "The unidentified good Samaritan told the child to go home as he talked to the driver." Police said that the boy made it home safely and reported the incident to his parents, who then contacted them. Arriving officers could not find the suspect or the good Samaritan. They continue to search for both as their investigation remains ongoing. The suspect is described as a woman between 30 and 50 years old with a medium build and brown hair. They believe she was driving a newer-model SUV similar to a Kia EV9. The good Samaritan is descbried as a man in his 70s who was wearing a baseball hat and black sunglasses. He was walking a dog similar to a white Labrador retriever. Police alerted the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District of the incident. "We take the safety of our children seriously and urge parents to remain vigilant, talk with their children about safety, and report any suspicious activity," police said in a statement. "We also ask that if you see something, say something. The PVEPD continues to investigate the incident. Let's work together to keep our community safe." Anyone who knows more is urged to contact detectives at (310) 378-4211.

Southern California police looking to identify alleged child lurer, good Samaritan who intervened

Police are searching for a woman who reportedly tried to lure a child into her car in Palos Verdes Estates, and they are also looking for a good Samaritan who stepped in to help the child. According to a news release issued by the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department, a 10-year-old boy was walking home from Luanda Bay Elementary School around 3:45 p.m. Friday when he was approached by a female driver who twice offered him a ride and said she would text his mother. The interaction took place in the 2400 block of Via Pacheco, approximately half a mile from the elementary school campus, and the boy told authorities that the woman who spoke to him was the sole occupant of the vehicle. Man kidnapped from West L.A. home, dumped at gas station 22 miles away 'The child refused [to enter the woman's vehicle], and a good Samaritan who was walking his dog nearby asked if [the boy] knew the driver…the child told the good Samaritan that he did not,' the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department release reads. 'The unidentified good Samaritan told the child to go home as he talked to the driver. The child was able to run home safely and report the incident to his parents.' Upon receiving the call, officers immediately rushed to the scene; however, they could not locate the female motorist nor the man who helped the boy. Detectives are seeking information on both of their identities and released the following descriptions: Female motorist: Black female, approximately 30 to 50 years old, medium build, brown hair Female vehicle: Light blue, newer model SUV similar to a Kia EV9 Good Samaritan: White male, approximately 70 years old, wearing a baseball cap and black sunglasses, walking a white lab Based on information provided and descriptions obtained, PVEPD contacted the Palos Verdes Peninsula Unified School District – of which Luanda Bay Elementary is a part of – to assist in their investigation, and neighboring law enforcement jurisdictions have also been alerted to the incident. Notifications to parents will be made by the district, police added. Man, 46, sought by authorities and family after not being seen for over a week No further details surrounding the active investigation were immediately released. LPGA removes tournament from schedule due to failed payments

The LPGA will begin its season next week with one fewer tournament on the schedule. The LPGA announced Friday that the Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship, previously scheduled for March 20-23 at Palos Verdes Golf Club southwest of Los Angeles, will not be held as originally planned. The cancellation, according to the LPGA, was 'unavoidable due to the event underwriter failing to fulfill any portion of its payment obligations to the LPGA Tour for the 2024 and 2025 events.' The tournament, won last year by Nelly Korda, debuted in 2018 as the Hugel-JTBC LA Open, but title sponsorship was taken over last year by Fir Hills, a Silicon Valley-based investment firm, with World Golf Hall of Famer Seri Pak serving as tournament host. The LPGA did not rule out re-adding the tournament to its schedule at a later date. 'We are deeply disappointed to announce this year's Fir Hills Seri Pak Championship will not go forward in March,' said Liz Moore, the LPGA's interim commissioner. 'We apologize for the impact this has on our players, as well as on our fans, partners and volunteers. We also want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff and members at Palos Verdes Golf Club, Palos Verdes Estates, and tournament operator, Outlyr, for their exceptional partnership and hospitality. It is our intention to return to Palos Verdes in the future to host title sponsor, Fir Hills, once again alongside these great partners. We remain dedicated to bringing this event back to our schedule to honor the incredible legacy of Seri Pak, who has been a wonderful ambassador for the game and this event.' This cancellation particularly affects LPGA members who aren't qualified for the winners-only Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, which starts next Thursday, and three limited-field events in Asia beginning in late February. There are just three full-field tournaments before the season's first major, the April 24-27 Chevron Championship.
