Missouri Job Center helps grads make smooth transistion into the job market
JOPLIN, Mo. — Graduation is just around the corner, and for many students, that means finding a job.
'There are a lot of kids that are going to be graduating right now. So the market is going to be flooded with individuals who are applying for different types of positions.'
That's why Pam Regan with the Missouri Job Center in Joplin says it's important to get a head start on the process – especially for first-time job seekers and high school graduates.
'If they've never had a job before, we have a work experience program, so we can get them connected with an employer and gain that work experience so they have something to put on that resume,' said Regan.

The same thing applies to post-secondary education graduates.
'For recent graduates in post-secondary education, they can come in, utilize our computers, set up an account with us, get their resumes online,' said Regan.
Regan says once you've signed in and completed your resume — the system puts your resume on future employers' radars.
'Employers that are looking for your skill set can see that resume and then they can contact you directly. It also gives you an opportunity to search for employers that are hiring in your career field.'
Once a graduate has passed that part of the process — it's time to prepare for interviews — which she says can be the most nerve-wracking part.
'They can call in. Somebody can sit down and kind of work with them to, you know, get over those nerves because interviewing is hard.'
The center also offers a variety of orientations to hone skills.
'Having that skill set that we can help them gain will help just make them more employable once they do get to that employer in that interview.'
