Ascension Parish to open Food Truck Court at courthouse
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Ascension Parish officials are moving forward with plans to open a food truck court in front of the Ascension Parish Courthouse in Gonzales, aiming to provide convenient dining options for courthouse visitors, jurors and staff.
Pamela Matassa, spokesperson for Ascension Parish Government, said the idea originated after courthouse users expressed interest in a café space.
Matassa said when the administration took office in 2020, the new courthouse was nearly complete. After a year of operation, visitors approached them about adding a café for jury selection and trial days.
'Due to space limitations in the lobby, we explored alternative options—leading to the idea of an outdoor food truck court,' she said.
The designated area will accommodate up to six food trucks at a time. The variety of cuisines will be determined during the vendor solicitation process, Matassa said.
To support the new court, the parish is finalizing ordinances to establish licensing requirements, designate approved food truck operating areas, and regulate food truck courts. Additionally, all food truck operators will be required to meet health and safety regulations to ensure compliance.
Matassa said public input will be welcomed once the court is operational.
'The public is always encouraged to provide feedback on any parish operation or facility,' she said.
