PANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Two months after the Pana Police Department's alcohol compliance checks revealed that half of the businesses failed, only one out of 13 businesses failed in the most recent round of inspections. The Pana Police Department and the Christian County Health Department teamed up to conduct the tobacco/nicotine compliance checks on May 1. They found that 12 out of 13 establishments refused to sell tobacco/nicotine to customers under 21. Five students ‘implicated' in Pana High School bathroom incident: Police

PANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Pana Police Department has provided an update on their investigation into the 'reported bullying' which took place at Pana High School. The department said that the incident occurred between three to four weeks ago and was 'brought to the attention of school staff' on March 28. It was reported to the department on Saturday and now, investigators are gathering statements and evidence and have completed multiple interviews. PREVIOUSLY: Police investigating 'incident' in bathroom at Pana High School Five students have been implicated in an incident where a student was held over a toilet against his will before being released. Police added that the victim had no contact with the toilet and received no visible injuries. Department officials said they will continue to work closely with Pana Schools officials to uncover all of the facts, which they will then present to the State's Attorney. When reached for comment over the weekend, the Pana Community Unit School District provided a statement. District officials said in part: 'Pana C.U.S.D. #8 High School Administration became aware of a video that was posted onsocial media late morning Friday, March 28th, which immediately initiated an in-depthInvestigation into the students involved in an incident inside a restroom at Pana High Schoolinvolving multiple students.' Mt. Zion PD warns of 'Senior Assassin' game, provides safety tips The district added that they are taking the matter 'very seriously,' and that they will work together with law enforcement to ensure student safety. 'Following the District's investigation, school officials deemed the matter serious enough to haveinvolved the Pana Police Department to conduct their own investigation into the incident,' officials added. 'The District is not at liberty to comment further on the results of its investigation or student discipline administered due to student records protections and minors' confidentiality rights.' PANA, Ill. (WCIA) — The Pana Police Department is investigating after a video of an 'incident inside a restroom,' involving multiple students at Pana High School, was shared online. The police department said on Saturday, they reached out to school officials to learn more about the details of the incident and the status of the investigation. They added that throughout the day on Saturday, information and evidence was collected. Now, multiple criminal investigations are being opened. Hundreds in Urbana come out to protest Trump The police department also reached out to the parent/ guardian of the 'alleged victim,' and received statements leading up to the incident. WCIA reached out to the Pana Community Unit School District but did not immediately receive a response back. In a post on Facebook, however, the district said they are aware of the situation. Administration is aware of the incident that was shared on social media this morning. A thorough investigation was conducted and appropriate discipline was administered. Alcohol compliance checks will happen more often in Pana after 50% of businesses fail

PANA, Ill. (WCIA) — Several Pana businesses have been fined after failing their alcohol compliance checks last weeks. The Liquor Compliance Check took place on Wednesday, as part of a partnership between the Pana Police Department, Code Enforcement Officers, Christian County Sheriff's Deputies, and Special Agents with the Illinois Liquor Control Commission Office. Police seeking tips after theft at dealership in Livingston Co. 14 establishments in Pana were checked. Half of them sold alcohol to a person who was under 21 years old. The establishments inside City limits found to be non-compliant were given a City Ordinance Violation for Prohibited Sales of Alcohol with a $500.00 fine. The sellers outside City limits were cited for Illegal Gift/Sale of Alcohol to Minors. All seven establishments were served notice by the Illinois Liquor Control Commission Office and will be given additional fines for the violation. The businesses that sold alcohol to a person who was under 21 years old included: 1. Lucky Jackpot; 1020 East Jackson St., Pana, IL2. Pana Bowl; 1306 East Jackson St., Pana, IL3. Spring Garden; 708 E. Jackson St., Pana, IL4. Pana Shell; 215 East 1st St., Pana, IL5. Station 502; 123 East 3rd St., Pana, IL6. Pana Gaming Parlor; 312 South Poplar St., Pana, IL7. Blue Bell Tavern; 2657 East 250 North Road, Pana, IL The Pana Police Department said that compliance checks will now happen more often due to the 'disappointing results from this operation.'
