Prayagraj: A wanted criminal, carrying Rs 25,000 cash reward, was injured and arrested after an encounter in Pratapgarh on Saturday night. The police recovered one country-made pistol of 0.315 bore, along with one live and one used cartridge, and a bike near the spot.

The injured criminal, identified as Panchlal Verma, a resident of Lalganj, was admitted to the community health centre Lalganj, Pratapgarh, for treatment. A total of 46 criminal cases are pending against him.
Police said a joint team of Lalganj police and the special operation group (SOG), after receiving input about the movement of the criminal, intensified checking near the rice mill crossing, Salem Bhadri, under the jurisdiction of Lalganj police station.
When the joint police team, suspicious of the activities of a bike rider, asked him to stop, he tried to escape. However, when the police team surrounded him, he opened fire. Police said the criminal suffered gunshot injuries in his leg and was taken to Lalganj CHC for treatment.
