Sanjiv Goenka reacts to Rishabh Pant's outrageous century to forget ghosts of IPL 2025 with LSG: ‘Reaching his ton…'

Lucknow Super Giants owner Sanjiv Goenka posted a note for the centurions from the Leeds Test against England, with special praise for Rishabh Pant. In the first match of the World Test Championship cycle, which also marks the start of a new era in Indian cricket post-Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma's retirements, three young superstars - Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rishabh Pant scored centuries. The troika raised their hands and put up a spectacular show in the first innings of the opening Test to lay a solid foundation. Sanjiv Goenka heaped praise on Rishabh Pant for his incredible century.(Reuters) Goenka, owner of the Pant-led LSG franchise in the IPL, applauded all three centurions for their impressive performances. However, he gave a special nod to his captain, praising Pant's flair and audacity to reach the triple-figure mark with a six. "Three's a charm with brilliant centuries from @ybj_19, @ShubmanGill, and now @RishabhPant17. Rishabh reaching his ton with a six speaks volumes about the future of Indian cricket. The left-handed batter, coming off a difficult IPL campaign, made an immediate statement with the switch to red-ball cricket, showcasing a strong comeback in the longer format. He smashed 12 fours and 6 sixes in his 137-run knock. Pant, having played a succession of extraordinary strokes, was lbw offering no shot to Tongue to end an innings that featured 84 runs in boundaries. Jaiswal, playing his first Test in England, carried the burden of setting the tone for India in a new era post the retirements of stalwarts like Kohli and Rohit. He rose to the occasion with a composed and confident hundred, once again reaffirming his potential as a cornerstone of India's future. On the other hand, Gill faced the dual weight of expectation – leading the side and walking in at No. 4, a position dominated by Kohli for over a decade. Why Has BCCI Punished Captain Rishabh Pant And Entire LSG XII?

Last Updated: Rishabh Pant has been slapped with a Rs 30 lakh fine while other LSG players will have to fork out Rs 12 lakh fine each or 50 per cent of their match fee - whichever is less. Lucknow Super Giants finished their IPL 2025 campaign on Tuesday night with a defeat to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Batting first, LSG racked up 228/3 thanks to an unbeaten century from captain Rishabh Pant. However, the target was chased down by Royal Challengers Bengaluru with Pant's counterpart Jitesh Sharma playing a blinder of an innings to fire his team to a six-wicket win. It was LSG 's eighth defeat of the season, and they finished seventh on the points table. The Pant-led team was found guilty of exceeding the time-limit to complete their 20 overs against RCB and thus their skipper has been slapped with a fine of Rs 30 lakh. 'As this was his team's third offence of the season under the IPL 's Code of Conduct for minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 Lakh," IPL said in a media release on Wednesday morning. 'The rest of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined either INR 12 Lakh or 50 per cent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser," it added. Though Pant ended the season on a positive note, overall, he would've been disappointed with the campaign. LSG splurged a record Rs 27 crore to sign the wicketkeeper-batter at the IPL mega auction last year, but the returns weren't commensurate. Pant scored 269 runs from 13 innings this IPL with 181 of them being scored across two matches. The 27-year-old will be next seen in action during the first Test of India's England tour that starts from June 20. He will serve as the vice-captain of the team that will be led by Shubman Gill. Rishabh Pant's Big Excuse Behind LSG's Poor Show In IPL 2025, Puts Blame On...

Captain Rishabh Pant on Monday admitted it was difficult for his side to fill the void created by the absence of key bowlers as Lucknow Super Giants bowed out of the race to the Indian Premier League playoffs. LSG's six-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad here knocked them out of reckoning for a top-four finish, with the Pant-led side enduring a demanding campaign from their bowling squad, which was stretched thin. "Definitely it could have been one of our best seasons but coming into the tournament we had a lot of gaps, injuries and as a team we decided to not talk about that, but it became difficult to fill those gaps for us,' Pant told the broadcaster after their loss to SRH. LSG began the IPL with injuries to Mohsin Khan, Avesh Khan, Akash Deep and Mayank Yadav. While they signed Shardul Thakur after the season began and the likes of Avesh and Akash returned, Mayank could only feature in a couple of games before being ruled out due to an injury again. "The way we planned the auction, if we would have had the same bowling... but this is cricket, sometimes things go your way and sometimes they don't, we take pride in the way we played and take the positives from the season rather than the negative side." "We have a strong batting lineup, have enough firepower, and that is the biggest positive for the season," said Pant, who himself endured a horror season as a batter. Pant said LSG found it difficult to keep up with the other teams as the race to playoffs heated up. 'The first half of the season we played really well but the second half it became tougher and tougher to catch up with the teams on the brighter side," he said. "(Digvesh) Rathi has come up nicely for us, his first season, the way he bowled, he is one of the positives, but you need to keep improving yourself and get better and better as the seasons go,' he recalled among the positives. SRH's win was set up by India opener Abhishek Sharma, who smacked six sixes and five fours to make 59 off only 20 balls. Sharma credited having a clear plan for his success. 'If we (had) batted first, I might have had other plans but chasing such a total we had a clear plan. If you ask any player who has been doing well for the team, chasing 200 plus something you should be able to win the powerplay.' 'I wanted to express myself and if I do well, I know the team is gonna do well as well. It was the same plan I had in international cricket as well. Just express myself and knock it around,' Sharma added. Sharma said it was important to take responsibility as an international player. 'You have to take the responsibility as an international player. The plan was same as in the international side. If it is (opportunity) there on the first ball, I had to go for it,' he said.

Nicholas Pooran almost shatters glass during dressing-room outburst; has animated chat with Rishabh Pant

In a rare moment of outburst, Nicholas Pooran, vice-captain of Lucknow Super Giants, was seen fuming in the dressing room during the match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday at the Ekana Stadium. LSG lost the game by six wickets to suffer an elimination from the race to the playoffs as Sunrisers, who had already incurred a similar fate earlier this month, secured only their fourth win this season. The incident occurred at home during the final over of LSG's innings. On the second ball of the over from Nitish Reddy, Pooran slapped the length ball towards deep mid-wicket, hoping for a maximum, but settled only for a single. He looked desperate for a second run, and it would have been possible had he not slipped while turning for the second run. He almost ran into Reddy, who escaped just in time, but Pooran slipped and missed the second run as a cautious Abdul Samad stopped him in his risky attempt. On the very next ball, Pooran was run out as he tried to sneak in a bye to get on strike, only for SRH keeper Ishan Kishan to hit the bullseye just in time. The dismissal left Pooran fuming, resulting in the outburst in the dressing room after the final ball of the innings was played. As Samad, LSG's last batting hope, was dismissed on the penultimate ball of the over, the camera spotted Pooran "nearly shattering the glass" in the LSG dressing room as captain Rishabh Pant looked on. Pooran then animatedly talked to the India star, gesturing towards the match as LSG set a target of 206. With Lucknow finding themselves in the midst of a three-way battle for the final playoffs spot in the season, it was a must-win game for the Pant-led side. However, Sunrisers comfortably chased it down with 10 balls to spare. Abhishek Sharma led the charge with his blazing 20-ball 59, comprising six maximums and four boundaries, before Heinrich Klaasen (47 off 28) and Kamindu Mendis (32 off 21) ably contributed in the run chase. The six-wicket loss at home, LSG's fifth defeat in the last six matches, saw the Lucknow side fall out of the race to make the playoffs.
