Kota Kinabalu: Seven major events have been lined up to liven up the official 74th birthday celebration of Sabah Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Musa Aman, scheduled for next month. Deputy Chief Minister II and Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Seri Dr Joachim Gunsalam said preparations have been underway since early February through the Main Committee he chairs to ensure the events run smoothly. He said the highlight of the celebration will be the Parade and March-Past Ceremony at Padang Merdeka here, scheduled for June 21, with over 80 contingents from government departments, private agencies, NGOs, higher learning institutions and schools. 'We expect more than 10,000 attendees at the Parade and March-Past at Padang Merdeka, weather permitting. This will be followed by a prize-giving ceremony for the Parade March Competition. 'I call on all Sabahans, regardless of background, to come together and celebrate this occasion as a show of respect and affection for our State's highest leader,' he said during a press conference at the Ministry of Communications Integrated Complex, Monday. The official 74th birthday of the Yang Dipertua Negeri Sabah falls on March 30. He said there will be a high-tea reception as well, bringing together state leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, department heads and community representatives in a spirit of goodwill and respect. Joachim added that several religious programmes will also take place, including thanksgiving prayers for the well-being of Musa, aiming to cultivate values of harmony and reflection among Sabah's multiracial and multi-religious communities. He said the public will be treated to a series of traditional performances, entertainment activities and interactive programmes to engage people from all walks of life. 'These events not only strengthen the identity of Sabahans but also foster a sense of unity and pride in the Ctate's rich heritage,' he added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
