Photo: Fiji Police Force A 26-year-old Northland man has been charged with murder, after a man's body was found at Parakao, 40km west of Whangārei, earlier this month. Detective Senior Sergeant Michelle Harris of Whangārei CIB said the death of Geoffrey Ware, 55, was initially regarded as unexplained, but that was later upgraded to homicide. Harris said police were not looking for anyone else in connection with Ware's death, but she was still keen to hear about any sightings of a 1999 blue-and-silver Mitsubishi L200 in the Parakao area, between 8am-6.15pm on 9 May. She also wanted to hear from anyone who had seen a man walking along State Highway 14 that afternoon and evening. Information could be uploaded to the Operation Cossar website . "The enquiry is ongoing and we appreciate all the help we've received from members of the public," Harris said. "We're appealing to anyone who hasn't come forward to please contact us." The arrested man had been remanded in custody and was due to appear in the Whangārei High Court on 26 May. He was 55-year-old Geoffrey Wayne Ware. His death, at a rural property off Mangakahia Road, about 40 kilometres west of Whangārei, was initially treated as unexplained . However, police later believed Ware was the victim of foul play . In a statement, Detective Senior Sergeant Michelle Harris said police were "following some strong lines of enquiry". Officers are now seeking sightings and information regarding a 1999 blue and silver Mitsubishi L200 seen in the areas of Mangakahia Road, Otaika Valley Road and State Highway 14 towards Whangārei between 2pm and 8pm on Friday 9 May. They are also looking for a man reportedly seen walking along State Highway 14 around that time. Anyone with information is asked to make a report online, or by calling 105 and quoting the reference number 250509/6749. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111. Police have been called to an "unexplained" death in Parakao. Photo: RNZ / REECE BAKER Police have been called to an "unexplained" death at a rural property in Northland. The body of a man was found by ambulance staff at the property off Mangakahia Road (State Highway 15), Parakao just before 4pm Friday. Police said the death is being treated as unexplained and an investigation is underway into the circumstances. The property has been cordoned off, a scene guard is in place and a scene examination will happen, police said. A post mortem would be carried out at a later stage. "These enquiries are in the very early stages and no further information is currently available," a police spokesperson said. Anyone with information to assist police can call 105 using the reference number P062498068.
