Meet the Real-Life Loves of 'The Chosen' Cast (Including One Couple Who Acted Together on the Show!)
The Chosen may retell Jesus' life by depicting various Bible stories, but the cast has romantic tales of their own. After premiering in theaters earlier in the year, the first part of The Chosen season 5 was released on Prime Video on June 15. While faith-based people across nearly 200 countries steadfastly tune into The Chosen, Paras Patel, who plays Matthew, told PEOPLE in April 2025 that the fans' connection goes beyond religion. 'What I love about our show is that we incorporate real-life moments with scripture added to it,' he said. 'You see things, themes of death, miscarriages and stuff that people can relate to and identify with." He continued, "And I think that's why the audience has really found a liking and understanding of the show because they can relate to that and they see a version of themselves or something they've been through in life." Jesus and his disciples may not be known for their romantic relationships, but that doesn't mean the cast doesn't have robust love lives. While lead Jonathan Roumie appears to be single, Noah James and his wife have been married since 2022, and George H. Xanthis also married that same year. From how playing holy figures have impacted their relationships to how their partners have supported them, here's everything to know about the real-life loves of The Chosen cast. Playing the titular role of Jesus in The Chosen, Jonathan Roumie is not known to be romantically involved with anyone. Though he's been rumored to be married, the actor set the record straight in a 2024 Instagram Live. 'According to the internet, I am married to a woman named Diane in Canada. I don't know who that person is; I don't know where that came from,' Roumie said. 'I am not married to anyone.' During her tenure playing The Chosen's Mary Magdalene, a devout follower of Jesus and the first person to whom he appeared after his resurrection, Elizabeth Tabish married playwright and actor Stan Mayer. The couple largely keep their relationship private, though they frequently post photos of their time together on social media. Tabish gave rare insight into their dynamic in a May 2024 interview with First for Women, sharing that she prioritizes having open communication with Mayer. 'We talk about our dreams and our memories,' she said. 'Having a partner who cares so much about my interior life and where my heart is at is something that I'm deeply grateful for. That brings me a lot of joy.' Shahar Isaac stars as Simon Peter, Jesus' first disciple, in The Chosen. Like many of the cast, Isaac doesn't share much about his private life, and he seems to be single currently. He has, however, spoken about his awe of the show's reach — and the wide array of feelings about its subject matter. "I think what I find very fascinating is how each reaction can be so vastly different," Isaac told Premier Christian Radio in January 2024. "How each person finds another angle of the character ... that's the beauty, you don't have control in it." Noah James, who portrays Simon Peter's brother, Andrew the Apostle, in The Chosen, married his wife Norma James in September 2022. The couple tied the knot in Malibu, Calif., in a whimsical Renaissance-themed ceremony. On their first wedding anniversary, Noah shared photos from their nuptials on Instagram. Alongside shots of himself and Norma beneath a grand floral-wrapped altar, the actor wrote, 'It was the best day of my life and we tried to soak up EVERY second of it.' Paras Patel plays Jesus' disciple Matthew in The Chosen. He isn't currently known to be seeing anyone during his time off set. As far as his character, Patel has said that the love Matthew gets from the neurodivergent community has "fueled" him to "dig deeper." "At the end of the day, everyone wants to see a version of themself or feel like they can relate," he told Movieguide in March 2025. "I think that's what makes Matthew pop for people, they really see themselves." When George H. Xanthis isn't portraying Jesus' disciple John the Apostle on the set of The Chosen, he's spending time with his wife and son. The actor largely keeps his family out of the public eye, choosing not to share their names, but according to Xanthis' Instagram, the couple married in February 2022 and welcomed their first child at the end of 2024. Giavani Cairo, who portrays Jesus' disciple Thaddeus in The Chosen, is in a relationship with news anchor Bella Michaels. The couple began dating in early 2024, and, in an Instagram recap at the end of the year, Cairo called Michaels 'a true gift from God.' '2024 was incredible for so many reasons,' the actor wrote. 'But the best part about it? Having my soulmate by my side.' Jordan Walker Ross is Jesus' disciple Little James in The Chosen, but in real life, he's a husband to his wife Stacy Ross. They share three kids, two daughters and a son. Following the theater release of The Chosen season 3 in November 2022, the actor thanked his wife on Instagram for her unyielding support over the years. 'I'm so glad my wife @skr2688 was able to be by my side after supporting me on this journey for so long,' Jordan wrote. 'Thank you for always believing in me, baby!' Vanessa Benavente plays the virgin Mother Mary in The Chosen, and like her character, the actress is married in real life. In 2011, she said 'I do' to fellow actor Sergio Lanza, who has portrayed Lamech in a few episodes of the historical drama. The couple welcomed their first daughter, Olivia, in 2018, followed by Amaia in 2022. During an April 2025 interview with Omnes, Benavente said that playing Mary has influenced how she parents. 'I take it back to me, to my home,' she said. 'They can make mistakes five hundred times; we, as their parents, will continue to love them. But we don't love them because they do things right, but because they are them.' Luke Dimyan's role in The Chosen is that of the famous traitor Judas Iscariot. Like some of his costars, Dimyan isn't known to be in a relationship. Though he isn't romantically involved with anyone, the actor is close with his family. In November 2022, he and his loved ones went to the theater to see a showing of The Chosen season 3, which was his first on the show. 'Judas fam went and saw The Chosen in theaters last night," he wrote on Instagram. "I don't think my head's ever been bigger. Or my heart fuller.' Read the original article on People

EXCLUSIVE! 'The Chosen: Last Supper' actor Paras Patel on Bollywood: ‘I was a huge Govinda and Akshay Kumar fan, but later it was Amitabh Bachchan, Aamir Khan and Irrfan Khan…'
In an EXCLUSIVE interview with Firstpost's Lachmi Deb Roy, Hollywood actor Paras Patel talks about his role as Mathew in 'The Chosen', his love for Bollywood, on his dreams of working on a series like Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Heeramandi and more read more Actor Paras Patel is best known for his role as 'Matthew' in the critically acclaimed series The Chosen, with Season 5 premiering on Amazon Prime in Spring 2025. The Chosen has become a global phenomenon, with over 200 million viewers and 770 million episode views as of January 2024. It's one of the most-watched shows in the world. The global success of The Chosen has earned him a devoted fan base. In an interview with Firstpost, he shares his desire for working with director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and how he would like to share the screen space with Salman Khan, Govinda and Akshay Kumar. Advertisement Edited excerpts from the interview: How much do you relate to the character, Matthew, in the in The Chosen? The respect to Matthew on The Chosen is huge. I actually didn't know how much I could relate to him until I started actually filming. And I found out that there's so many things that Matthew and me have in common as we portray him on the show. You know? I'm very OCD in a way where I am very clean. I'm very particular just like Matthew. I also studied finance before getting into acting. So there is a lot of similarities between me and Matthew, and I was able to use that into the character and kind of build him as we've gone through season after season. Matthew's also taught me a lot about myself, a lesson of strength, perseverance, and self-motivation as well as finding your own voice. And so it's kinda cool to be connected so much to this character that I've been portraying because I didn't know how much it would impact me, and I'm lucky to be portraying him. Our children are a global phenomenon. How do you feel about it? Were you expecting this kind of global love when you initially started with this project? Not at all, when we first started the show, we did season one, and we crowdfunded. So we only crowdfunded enough to do the first four episodes. So we filmed that in late fall, and we didn't know if we would finish the last four until the following summer. And then it just went viral, and just kept growing year after year. We have released it in theatres in India too. It's just been this journey that none of us expected as a cast and crew, but we're just so grateful for this. I always like to say, expect the unexpected with The Chosen because it'll just keep levelling up in its own way. It's just been a phenomenon like you said. It's so surreal experience to be able to be a part of something like this and actually go and see the world and see the impact you are having on everyone through this show. EXCLUSIVE! 'The Chosen' actor Paras Patel's interview How has the show impacted you in your personal life or you as a human being in general? Advertisement What I love about the show is that it just teaches you to just be a good person. And it gives you hope. Maybe just watching a character It kind of helps you with different parts of your life that you didn't know you needed some, you know, like, advice on or maybe just, watching a character go through their journey. And you're like, 'Oh! I've been through something similar, but this is how Matthew handled the situation.' And look what happened? He became a better person, and he found himself. And maybe you can adapt that into your own life. For me, it's portraying Matthew and really finding this inner confidence I had because I struggled a lot as an actor, and it's just such an unpredictable career. And to now portray this character that's really impacting people's lives, has made me feel fulfilled, and I'm just so grateful to be a part of that. Advertisement You are interested in Indian cinema, who do you want to work with? Any specific director or anything? Maybe a Heeramandi or something like that would be just epic to be a part of such a series of that scale. But, you know, I grew up watching the 90 stars like Salman Khan, Govinda, Akshay Kumar, all of them. So, even just sharing a screen space with them would just be an honour. Who's your favourite Indian actor and why? When I was growing up, I was a huge Govinda and Akshay Kumar fan. Like, I would just watch all their movies. But as I grew more into being an actor, I realised that each actor brings their certain masala to the role. So, I was inspired by Aamir Khan, Irrfan Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, who just brought their elements depending on the kind of movie they're doing. I like them for their versatility.
