PSG: Decision made on Champions League trophy parade after Paris chaos

Paris Saint-Germain's Champions League trophy parade has been given the green light to go ahead as planned on Sunday, but the number of fans in attendance will be capped. PSG's stunning and historic 5-0 rout of Inter Milan in Saturday night's one-sided Champions League final in Munich has since been overshadowed in France as wild celebrations gave way to chaos and destruction in the country. Advertisement Two people have died, 192 were injured and 559 arrested after the widespread trouble, with 491 of those occurring in Paris, where nine police offers were injured during clashes as cars were set ablaze and shop windows smashed. Such disorder - which led to riot police using tear gas and water cannons - led to doubt over whether PSG's returning players would still embark on an open-top bus parade as planned on Sunday afternoon, though it's now been confirmed that will take place. However, local authorities have capped the number of fans allowed in attendance down the iconic Champs Elysees at 100,000, with a celebration featuring the PSG squad also set to go ahead outside their home stadium, the Parc des Princes. "We have a cap on the amount of people that can come in,' Paris Police chief Laurent Nunez said on Sunday. 'There are 100,000 people that can come in. After that, we can't bring any more people in. Advertisement "There will be a celebration around the Parc des Princes as well and the players will be at the Parc des Princes to meet their fans. "There again we are expecting some clashes, some scuffles and we will be there and we will be very strong in our response against the vandals, against the thieves who have a go at the police officers. "We will not tolerate any abuse today and the fans who want to enjoy the parade, can do so safely."

At least 81 arrested in Paris as violence erupts during PSG's Champions League victory

At least 81 people have been arrested violent clashes in Paris after huge crowds of fans gathered to watch PSG's victory over Inter Milan in the Champions League final. The club's Parc des Princes stadium was transformed into a fan zone for the night to screen the match, which took place in Munich, with about 48,000 attending. Footage on social media appears to show police armed with batons clashing with people, close to where thousands of fans had congregated. Several fires were ignited near the stadium in the French capital and fire brigades were dispatched to multiple locations to tackle the blazes. Local media said the police detained at least 81 people. France's interior minister, Bruno Retailleau, wrote on social media: 'True PSG fans are getting excited about their team's magnificent performance. Meanwhile, barbarians have taken to the streets of Paris to commit crimes and provoke law enforcement. 'I have asked the internal security forces to react vigorously to these abuses. I offer my support to the Police Prefect and all the police officers who are ensuring everyone's safety this evening. 'It is unbearable that it is not possible to party without fearing the savagery of a minority of thugs who respect nothing.' About 5,400 police were deployed across the city for the post-match celebrations, with officers on the Champs-Élysées using teargas and pepper spray to maintain order. A police spokesperson said a car was set alight near the Parc des Princes and several dozen arrests had been made by the time the match ended, Reuters reported. Traffic around the Arc de Triomphe was blocked from midday with the Champs-Élysées boulevard and nearby streets also closed on Saturday evening. Earlier, in Munich, PSG and Inter Milan supporters threw stones at each other at Fröttmaning station while travelling to the Allianz arena for the final, Bild reported. They also caused travel disruption by making their way on to train tracks, according to reports. PSG's win over Arsenal in the semi-final on 7 May sparked unrest in Paris, with 47 people arrested and three others injured after being hit by a car.

Police to deploy en masse in Paris for Champions League final

PSG have never won the most glamorous prize in European club football. (EPA Images pic) PARIS : Paris will deploy thousands of police officers during the Champions League football final between home favourites Paris St-Germain and Inter Milan in Munich on Sunday, French police said today. 'A massive deployment in the capital and its surroundings, with 5,400 personnel mobilised… that's enormous,' Paris police chief Laurent Nunez said in an interview with Le Parisien. Many of the officers will be deployed on the French capital's Champs-Elysees and around PSG's home stadium Parc des Princes, on the southwestern edge of the city, he said. The game is the climax to the European season and despite enormous spending, PSG have never won the most glamorous prize in European club football. This is only PSG's second final since the Qatari takeover of the team from the French capital in 2011.
