Paris Johnson named most likely Cardinals OL to win new Protector of the Year

Paris Johnson named most likely Cardinals OL to win new Protector of the Year The NFL has a new award for O-lineman. Johnson is the most likely Cardinals player to win it. The NFL will have a new award in 2025 for an offensive lineman, called the Protector of the Year. There will be certain metrics used to determine that. But that means we can look at what player on each team is most likely to receive those first honors. Pro Football Network ranked the best candidate from each team in terms of being the league's best protector. For the Arizona Cardinals, unsurprisingly, it was tackle Paris Johnson. If you want a true dark horse candidate for Protector of the Year, Johnson Jr. might be it. After an average rookie year in 2023, he exploded for the Arizona Cardinals in Year 2, sliding from right tackle back over to his natural position of left tackle. If he continues his level of development, he should be in Pro Bowl consideration by the end of the season. He should be the Cardinals' best offensive lineman. He was a highly drafted tackle and had a solid 2024, although his play dipped a bit in the second half of the season before he missed the final three games with a knee injury. PFN has him 18th in their rankings of linemen likely to win. Get more Cardinals and NFL coverage from Cards Wire's Jess Root and others by listening to the latest on the Rise Up, See Red podcast. NFL announces yearly award for top O-lineman

NFL announces yearly award for top O-lineman Cardinals tackle Paris Johnson will have his eyes on the new Protector of the Year award. The NFL will have a new yearly player award category in 2025. Per multiple reports, there is an award for offensive linemen. Along with such awards as Most Valuable Player and Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, the NFL will now add Protector of the Year. From "I'm going to give credit to Dion Dawkins from Buffalo," NFL executive vice president of football operations Troy Vincent said Wednesday from the Spring League Meeting in Minnesota. "He was truly instrumental, him and Andrew Whitworth, of just making sure that we recognize the big fellas. LeCharles Bentley, Jason Kelce, Shaun O'Hara, Orlando Pace, Will Shields and Andrew Whitworth will be the panel. … They've come up with a criteria on skills, metrics, impact, leadership, durability and strength of the opponent. We'll be tracking that quarterly with this group." With this new award, Cardinals tackle Paris Johnson will surely have his eyes on the award. Arizona Cardinals LT Paris Johnson completely healthy entering offseason program

While most of the focus in the NFL is on the upcoming NFL draft on Thursday, the Arizona Cardinals began their offseason program and commenced strength and conditioning work. One of the questions entering the offseason was the health of both their starting offensive tackles — left tackle Paris Johnson and right tackle Jonah Williams. Advertisement We have the answer to one of those questions. Johnson told reporters on Tuesday that he is "good to go completely." Johnson missed the final three games of the season with a strained MCL in his knee. It was a new experience for him. He said he had never missed a game with injury dating back to high school. "I hadn't missed a game, high school, college, or ever up to that point," he said. "But it's part of the game. It happens." He was hoping he never would have to miss time. In his first season at left tackle after playing his rookie season at right tackle, he is ready to show his potential. Advertisement "I'm trying to show the world that it's time for me to make the jump to be the best version of myself, and I believe the best version of myself is one of the best tackles in the game, but now it's time to show it." he said. He was a Pro Bowl alternate last season. He wants more. For now, it is just through workouts. He won't line up against another player until OTAs and minicamp. But getting a healthy start to the offseason is a good way to kick things off. The 6 draft-day trades the Arizona Cardinals have made under GM Monti Ossenfort

The 6 draft-day trades the Arizona Cardinals have made under GM Monti Ossenfort Check out the six draft-day trades the Cardinals have made over the last two years. The Arizona Cardinals have six selections in the 2025 NFL draft. If recent history is any predictor of what will happen, we can expect that the Cardinals will acquire more picks through draft-day trades. With general manager Monti Ossenfort in place the last two years, they have made six draft-day trades. Five of those trades were to move back and acquire additional picks. Only one was to move up. Can we expect more deals once the draft begins on Thursday? Let's have a look at the Cardinals' six draft-day trades and what they resulted in. 2023 Round 1 (trade down) The Cardinals traded the No. 3 overall pick and pick No. 105 (Round 4) to the Houston Texans for No. 12, No. 33 and 2024 first- and third-round picks. 2023 Round 1 (trade up) After trading down to No. 12, they moved up to draft tackle Paris Johnson. They gave the Detroit Lions the No. 12 pick, the No. 34 pick (Round 2) and No. 168 (Round 5) for the No. 6 pick and No. 81 (Round 3). 2023 Round 2 (trade down) In a trade with the Tennessee Titans, the Cardinals traded the pick No. 33 (Round 2) and No. 81 (Round 3 — just acquired from the Lions) for No. 41 (Round 2), No. 72 (Round 3) and a 2024 third-round pick. They used the 41st pick to select OLB BJ Ojulari and the 72nd pick to select CB Garrett Williams. 2023 Round 3 (trade down) The Cardinals made a deal again with the Lions, giving them pick No. 96 in exchange for No. 122 (Round 4), No. 139 (Round 5) and No. 168 (Round 5 - which they had sent to the Lions in the Round 1 deal). They took OL Jon Gaines with No. 122, QB Clayton Tune with No. 139 and LB Owen Pappoe with No. 168. 2024 Round 2 (trade down) They traded the No. 35 pick and pick No. 186 (Round 6) to the Atlanta Falcons for No. 43 (Round 2) and No. 79 (Round 3). They used the 43rd pick to draft CB Max Melton. They included pick No. 79 in another trade. 2024 Round 3 (trade down) The Cardinals traded pick No. 79, just acquired from the Falcons in the second round, to the Indianapolis Colts for pick No. 82 (also a third-round pick) and No. 191 (Round 6). They used the 82nd pick to draft TE Tip Reiman and No. 191 to draft WR Tejhaun Palmer.
