French Cup win perfect preparation for Champions League, says PSG manager Luis Enrique
Paris St. Germain players may have had their minds on a bigger prize, but they easily retained their French Cup on Saturday in a display, which manager Luis Enrique said was the ideal way to prepare for the Champions League final. A week before PSG faces Inter Milan in a bid to win the club's first and long-sought-after European Cup, it made light work of Stade de Reims in a 3-0 win at the Stade de France. 'It was a very good match. We prepared for the final on the 31st in the best way,' Enrique told BeIN Sports. 'This (Champions League) final is important. We want to make history. We're ready. We are a real team and we want to get trophies.' PSG had the job done in a first half where it scored three goals against a Reims side which offered little resistance, and Luis Enrique now has the job of readying his side for the biggest game of their season. 'The Champions League final will be a special moment for everyone. There is no special preparation,' he said. 'We will have to deal with a lot of pressure, but we have to prepare for it in the best way. It's not easy to manage everything around the team.' Enrique has now clinched the domestic treble in his first two seasons at the club, a period in which PSG has moved away from the star-studded sides of the past, a tactic which may well lead it to its ultimate goal. 'We hope to celebrate the Champions League.' Enrique has already won a coveted continental treble as manager of Barcelona, and now wants to do the same with the French club, which is aiming to win all before them this season. 'We have three of the four titles that we can win, and we're on the last step. I hope we can make PSG history,' the manager told reporters. 'The team showed a lot of commitment and all that is preparing us for the match we are expecting, which will be decisive and which can allow us to make history.'

Soccer-Australia's Kisnorbo named permanent coach of Yokohama
FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - Ligue 1 - Troyes v Paris St. Germain - Stade de l'Aube, Troyes, France - May 7, 2023 Troyes coach Patrick Kisnorbo REUTERS/Johanna Geron/File Photo MELBOURNE (Reuters) - Patrick Kisnorbo has been confirmed as head coach of Yokohama F Marinos after serving as interim boss in the wake of Steve Holland's sacking last month. The Australian former Melbourne City and Troyes manager will be tasked with lifting Marinos out of the relegation zone following a disastrous start which sees the five-times J-League champions bottom of the table. Kisnorbo will hope to emulate compatriots Ange Postecoglou and Kevin Muscat who steered the team to the 2019 and 2022 championships respectively. "Taking the reins of such a prestigious club with a rich history and passionate fanbase is a dream come true for me," 44-year-old Kisnorbo said in a statement. Former Australia defender Kisnorbo joined Marinos as an assistant coach under Holland in December, after resigning as Melbourne Victory manager seven games into his three-year contract with the A-League club. PSG's injured Dembele to miss Strasbourg trip, eyeing return for Arsenal
PARIS: Paris St. Germain forward Ousmane Dembele will miss their Ligue 1 trip to Strasbourg with a hamstring strain, manager Luis Enrique said on Friday as the French side look to have him back for next week's Champions League semifinal second leg against Arsenal. Dembele is PSG's top scorer this season with 33 goals in all competitions and also netted the winner in their 1-0 first leg victory at Arsenal, but the 27-year-old came off in the 70th minute, going straight down the tunnel with an apparent injury. PSG confirmed he had a hamstring strain and that his 'condition is progressing well,' with further assessments to be conducted in the coming days. 'Tomorrow he won't play, that's for sure,' Luis Enrique told reporters, while also declining to confirm if he will rotate his squad with the Ligue 1 title already in the bag. 'We're going to do what we've been doing up to now, with the same idea. Nothing has changed. 'The most important thing is that every minute spent wearing the PSG jersey is useful for matches in other competitions.' PSG lost their chance to go an entire league season unbeaten when they suffered a 3-1 defeat by Nice last weekend. Luis Enrique's side can still finish the season unbeaten on the road but the Spaniard has no interest in that record as they prepare to face Arsenal on Wednesday and Reims in the French Cup final later this month. 'It's a match we're preparing for in the Champions League, in the Coupe de France, not for the unbeaten record,' he said. 'It would be great to win the match in Strasbourg, but the motivation is to prepare for the Champions League match, not to break an unbeaten record.' PSG have fallen in the Champions League knockout stages in recent years and have the opportunity to return to the final for only the second time as they chase a treble. 'We want to achieve this objective of playing this final, but there is still the semifinal second leg,' said Luis Enrique, who previously won the treble coaching Barcelona. 'There is not much time to rest, you have to manage all of this. We, the coaches, go for the best. I've been a top-level coach for several years and it's part of the job.'
