Liberty-Eylau advances to the regional finals with victory over Whitesboro
PARIS, TX (KTAL/KMSS) — On Saturday, Liberty-Eylau baseball faced off against Whitesboro in the regional semifinals. Going into the day, the Leopards led the series 1-0 and was eager to sweep the Bearcats.
Britain Pipes was first to get the Leopards on the board. An overthrow while stealing second allowed him to get to third, when another overthrow from Whitesboro went into the Liberty-Eylau dugout, advancing Pipes to home.
The two teams were caught in a defense stalemate from that moment until the sixth inning, when Whitesboro came up with two runs and took the lead.
With the threat of a game three looming, Liberty-Eylau went into the bottom of the sixth ready to do some damage. Arian Taylor got the inning started, with a two RBI single regaining the lead for the Leopards.
After that, the Bearcats had no answer on the mound for Liberty-Eylau's momentum and the Leopards went on to claim the 8-2 victory.
'We talked about having a team that can win any type of game, whether it's 10-9 or 1-0. This was a different type of game and we had to find a different way to win it,' head coach Zach Fowler said. 'So, today was kind of grind it out, get a pitcher off the mound, sometimes you gotta go attack guys, but today we let them kind of throw a lot of pitches and attack the next guy.'
The Leopards advance to the regional finals round where they will play the winner of Gunter and Hughes Springs.
