Guanella Pass also opened on Thursday. It connects Grant in Park County with Georgetown in Clear Creek County. Trail Ridge Road through Rocky Mountain National Park remains closed. Snow clearing efforts are underway on the road which runs from Estes Park in Larimer County to Grand Lake in Grand County. The road to the top of Mount Blue Sky will not be opening this year due to construction. Drivers should consider making special plans when driving in the mountains, particularly when some snowy conditions still remain in some areas. Guanella Pass closes hours after opening in Colorado mountains due to snow
Just hours after it opened for the season, Guanella Pass closed once again due to winter conditions. According to the Colorado Department of Transportation, the pass was closed between I-70 and County Road 62 on Friday morning. After an extensive snow-clearing effort on Thursday, Guanella Pass Road opened. CDOT said that it snowed again Thursday night, leading to the pass closure. Crews open up Guanella Pass Scenic Byway on Friday. Clear Creek County The scenic byway runs 24 miles from Georgetown in Clear Creek County to Grant in Park County. It winds its way above treeline to the top of Guanella Pass, and it has great views of Mount Bierstadt and Mount Blue Sky. During the summer months, the area is popular with hikers and people interested in fishing. Guanella Pass Scenic Byway is also a very popular destination during the fall, when the aspen trees can be seen changing colors. It closes during the winter months. Trail Ridge Road is not anticipated to open over the Memorial Day Holiday weekend. According to Rocky Mountain National Park, snowplow operators faced setbacks over the past week from previous progress. The road to the top of Mount Blue Sky is closed for maintenance and will not be open until next year.

Colorado's Independence Pass opens for the 2025 summer season, Highway 82 gives drivers a scenic way to get to Aspen
Independence Pass is now open for the 2025 summer travel season. The opening marks the first time the road will be open since late October. CDOT Crews from the Colorado Department of Transportation opened Highway 82 at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The road gives drivers a scenic way to get to Aspen. It connects Twin Lakes in Park County with Aspen in Pitkin County. CDOT Every year CDOT uses explosives, some dropped from helicopters, to trigger avalanches on the pass so snow slides won't be a problem for drivers once the roadway opens. The opening means drivers in Colorado's mountains have another option for high country road tripping. Earlier in the day on Thursday Guanella Pass also opened for the season.

Mother's Day warmth builds across Colorado
If you're planning to celebrate Mother's Day outdoors, the forecast couldn't be better. Highs across the Front Range and eastern plains are climbing into the low to mid-80s, with mostly sunny conditions. CBS The mountains may see some afternoon isolated showers or weak thunderstorms. These storms won't last long but may bring gusty winds and brief rain, especially across areas like Park County. There's a small chance we could see a few showers across the Denver metro area late this afternoon and this evening. CBS As we look ahead to Monday and Tuesday, the heat turns up another notch. Temperatures are expected to surge into the upper 80s across the lower elevations — nearly 15 degrees above normal for mid-May. And with humidity levels dropping into the teens and breezy conditions setting in, fire weather conditions may be a concerns. CBS We will see a pattern shift mid-week, with cooler temperatures and increased moisture across Colorado. Expect a return to more seasonable temperatures by Wednesday and Thursday, along with a better chance for widespread showers and thunderstorms.

Kendrick Lamar Comedy From Trey Parker and Matt Stone Moves to Spring 2026
You will have to wait a little longer for the untitled comedy starring Kendrick Lamar and directed by 'South Park' creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, as Paramount has announced that it will now arrive in theaters on March 20, 2026. It was previously scheduled to release July 4 of this year. The script for the project is by Vernon Chatman and while Paramount has yet to reveal any plot details, with the studio only describing the movie as an 'original live-action comedy.' Lamar and Dave Free are producing through their company pgLang, while Stone and Parker are producing for Park County. Paramount film chief Brian Robbins spoke about the project at last year's CinemaCon, calling it 'one of the funniest and most original scripts we've ever read.' The film is the first feature from the duo in more than two decades – their last feature was 2004's puppet-filled 'Team America: World Police;' before that was their Oscar-nominated 1999 'South Park' movie 'Bigger, Longer & Uncut.' Lamar recently performed a political and Easter egg-packed Super Bowl halftime show and has won 22 Grammy awards (including several this year). On the film side of things, he appeared in last year's LEGO-fied Pharrell Williams documentary 'Piece by Piece' and oversaw the blockbuster soundtrack for Marvel Studios' 2018 smash 'Black Panther.'
