Tens of thousands to benefit from scheme incentivising people to opt out of hotel housekeeping

Travel's Just a Drop charity has hailed the success of an innovative pilot scheme incentivising Park Plaza Hotel Group guests to help raise money for its clean water and sanitation projects around the world. Guests in 17 hotels were offered loyalty points, bottles of wine and restaurant vouchers in return for opting out of housekeeping – reducing their hotel's water and energy consumption – and a £1 or €1 per night donation to the charity. The ecological programme will allow Just a Drop to support 17 projects across six countries this year, providing 42,000 people with access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene education. Projects include rainwater harvesting tanks and latrines in Zambia, menstrual hygiene training in Cambodia and piped water systems in Nicaragua. "Through the initiative, 22,476 people have gained access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene, with an additional 19,551 expected to benefit in 2025," said Just a Drop, adding the partnership had benefited both organisations through 'storytelling and visibility'. It continued: 'Just a Drop shares detailed impact reports, stories and videos, bringing the programme's results to life for guests and staff. These narratives, showcased in hotel lobbies, in-room materials and digital platforms inspire deeper engagement and loyalty." The project enables Park Plaza to cut daily housekeeping costs, but also to reduce water and energy consumption. It said it hoped the programme would 'inspire the wider hospitality sector'.

Chris Eubank opens up on measures taken to keep reunion with son a secret

Chris Eubank Sr has opened up on how he wore a disguise to reunite with his son to avoid spoiling the reunion on fans. However, he admitted he was concerned for his son's health as they travelled to hospital following the victory over Conor Benn. Eubank Sr claims Jr's head is swollen 'like a football' after the 12-round battle. But it was a dramatic night at the home of Spurs which was kickstarted when Eubank Sr stunned everyone by showing up in a car alongside his son. It came after the two-weight world champion had claimed he would have nothing to do with the fight. But he changed his mind late on Friday night, contacted his son by text then waited for him to call back two hours later as he agreed to be by his side. He then concocted a plan to get into the Park Plaza in Vauxhall without the public or media spotting him. 'Junior called and he said, 'I didn't want to call dad because I can't hear anything negative'," Eubank Sr said on his own podcast. "I said to Junior, 'okay all right so uh where are you?' Okay so he explained. How am I going to get in now in my mind you know you have the world's media there everyone's hanging around so how am I going to get in? 'So I put on the disguise, the disguise when he saw me he said 'No one's going to recognize you'. You couldn't see me I had a um Miyake coat on which is down to literally your ankles, I had a hoodie. 'The coat they wore in the 1960s on their mopeds and then I had a mask that went up and a cap. The shoes I wore. they were trainers they're black and Junior even said, 'Wow there's no way anyone's going to recognize you looking like that.' It set up an iconic entrance with 'Simply the Best' - Eubank Sr's entrance music - played as they departed the dressing room and entered the arena. Eubank Jr then outpointed Benn in a slugfest, with Chris Sr watching ringside with Nigel Benn. But it had been a gruelling weight cut for Eubank Jr to get down to 11st 6lb and then not be able to rehydrate more than 10lbs overnight. That was one of the reasons why his father didn't want to be involved as he felt it was dangerous. Eubank Jr's team took no chances after the bout and he was rushed to hospital suffering from dehydration. He was also given precautionary checks with a CT scan on the brain. Sr said: 'We were in the ambulance, the sirens, the horns are, beeping the chaos. My son Junior is very proud. His looks like a blown up football almost twice the size and he'll never let you see that because he's proud 'People don't know but my son is touch and go and the only way we're going to know whether he's going to be okay is after the CT scans. 'He suffered mostly in the hospital because of dehydration even though the beating was severe and that's why he was in such discomfort for 24, 30 hours. I don't want my son to have to go through that again. He doesn't know that his life was in the balance neither does he care.'
