Armed robbers steal meat from delivery truck near Paul Kruger Gate

A Parkton Meats delivery truck was robbed of a large quantity of meat at about 10:30 yesterday. Mpumalanga News reports the robbery occurred on the R538 road, a few kilometres from the Paul Kruger Gate to the Kruger National Park. The driver of the delivery vehicle saw three men in the middle of the road, pointing guns at him, and he was forced to stop the truck. 'According to the truck driver, he stopped and the armed men forced him to open the back of the truck to steal the meat. The truck driver was not harmed,' said one of the first people to arrive at the scene, Xibutana Nkuna from the nearby Belfast village. Nkuna added that the driver told him a white Volkswagen Polo arrived at the scene. 'The driver said the robbers placed the boxes of meat into the getaway vehicle and sped off towards Elephant Point,' he explained. When Mpumalanga News spoke to the managing director of Parkton Meats, Allan Germishuys, he was on his way to the scene. 'I can confirm that our truck was robbed of meat today. I am on my way to the scene and much concerned about the safety of our driver at the moment. We don't have much detail for now and can only talk about the incident later,' Germishuys said at the time. Mpumalanga police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Jabu Ndubane was not aware of the incident when Mpumalanga News contacted her for comment. 'That is the jurisdiction of our members from Calcutta Police Station in Mkhuhlu. I shall interact with them for the information,' said Ndubane.
