Majlis Ash'shura chairman receives delegation from Iraq
MUSCAT: Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash'shura, on Sunday received a delegation from the Electricity and Energy Committee of the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
The Iraqi delegation is on an official visit to the Sultanate of Oman to exchange expertise with the Majlis Ash'shura about legislative and economic aspects.
At the outset of the meeting, Al Maawali commended bilateral relations and the strong bonds binding the peoples of the Sultanate of Oman and the Republic of Iraq. He underscored the significance of mutual visits between legislative councils in consolidating parliamentary diplomacy, expertise and supporting bilateral relations in economic and investment fields.
For his part, Mohammed Nouri Abed Rabbo, Chairman of the Parliamentary Energy and Electricity Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives, stressed the importance of maintaining communication and exchanging visits to serve the shared legislative interests of the two countries.
As part of the programme, the Majlis Ash'shura's Economic and Financial Committee held a joint meeting with the Iraqi Council of Representatives' Electricity and Energy Committee. The meeting was chaired by Ahmed bin Said al Sharqi, Chairman of the Majlis Ash'shura's Economic and Financial Committee, and Mohammed Nouri Abed Rabbo, Chairman of the Parliamentary Energy and Electricity Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives.
During the meeting, Al Sharqi reviewed the legislative roles undertaken by the Majlis Ash'shura. He also spoke about the integration between the Majlis Ash'shura and other institutions of the state within the context of national decision-making and the realisation of the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
Al Sharqi also highlighted the tasks of the standing committees, the role of the Secretariat-General in providing technical support to members and discussed the efforts to strengthen parliamentary diplomacy in various regional and international forums and meetings.
Al Sharqi spoke about the role of the Majlis Ash'shura's Economic and Financial Committee in debating draft laws of economic nature, analysing the state's general budget and reviewing economic agreements, in addition to highlighting economic challenges.
For his part, Mohammed Nouri Abed Rabbo spoke about the draft laws being discussed by the Parliamentary Energy and Electricity Committee in the Iraqi Council of Representatives. The bills include one on regulating electricity production and distribution and promoting investment in the renewable energy sector.
Then, the Iraqi delegation toured the Majlis Ash'shura's halls and listened to a briefing about modern technologies used in the council's deliberations and the electronic voting process.
The meeting was attended by members of the Majlis Ash'shura, including Talib al Balushi, Juma al Wahaibi and Abdulaziz al Hashemi. - ONA
