Supriya Sule led delegation visits Parliament of South Africa
Cape Town [South Africa], May 28 (ANI): The all-party delegation led by NCP-SCP Supriya Sule on Wednesday visited the Parliament of South Africa as part of the Modi government's diplomatic reach to highlight India's stand on terrorism in the wake of the operation Sindoor launched by Indian armed forces in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. The delegation met with Les Govender, Deputy Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, the Upper House, and 13 other MPs of various political parties. Earlier, delegation member Syed Akbaruddin, India's former permanent representative to the UN, termed the Pahalgam terror attack an attempt to undermine India's social cohesion and economic momentum. He was interacting with the Indian Diaspora here. 'Cricket is a passion for all of us. The only country before now that we refused to play was apartheid South Africa. I am raising this because we are now refusing to play cricket with another country. You need to understand the depth of our engagement and our revulsion at why we do this,' Akbaruddin said. 'Yes, this terrorist act led to a loss of a large number of lives, but it was much more. We see this as an act of undermining our social cohesion. We are a pluralistic country with diversity as our signature, yet we saw an attempt to undermine that social cohesion. More importantly, we see this as an attempt to undermine our economic momentum,' he added. He also highlighted how large the Indian economy is in comparison with that of Pakistan. 'India and Pakistan both started together as Midnight's Children. Our economy is about ten times or more than their economy. The economy of Maharashtra is perhaps larger than the economy of Pakistan,' says former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin. Supriya Sule said at the event that the terror attack in Pahalgam has deeply hurt every Indian around the world. Sule said that Prime Minister Modi extended a hand of friendship to neighbouring countries in 2014 when he took oath as Prime Minister, but the recent attack has shown that peace efforts have not been respected. 'When PM Modi took oath in 2014, he invited every neighbour to his oath ceremony to send a message that we wanted the subcontinent to be peaceful and happy and to grow together. But, unfortunately, with the Pahalgam incident, it has not happened. This incident has shaken every Indian everywhere in the world. I am happy South Africa has stood by India,' Sule added. Sule stated that it's PM Modi's wish that Operation Sindoor must reach the global stage to show that India will not tolerate terrorism and will always stand for peace without sacrificing innocent lives. The members of the delegation are Members of Parliament Supriya Sule, Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Vikramjeet Singh Sahney, Manish Tewari, Anurag Singh Thakur, Lavu Sri Krishna devarayalu, Anand Sharma, former Minister of Commerce & Industry, V Muraleedharan, Former Minister of State for External Affairs, and Syed Akbaruddin, Former Permanent Representative of India to the UN. Yemeni Parliament renews address to world parliamentary leaders regarding Trump administration's crimes against Yemenis
Sana'a - Saba: The Parliament of the Republic of Yemen has renewed its appeal to the heads of parliaments and legislative councils in several countries regarding the crimes committed by the Trump administration against the Yemeni people and their resources. The letters, addressed to the Speaker of the Malaysian Parliament, the Chairman of the Russian State Duma, the Speaker of the Iranian Islamic Consultative Assembly, and several other parliamentary leaders worldwide, informed them of the escalation of U.S. aggression against Yemen since mid-March. The letters also clarified the ongoing targeting of civilians, civilian properties, and infrastructure as a result of the U.S. aggression, particularly amid the dangerous escalation of violations of international and humanitarian law in the region and the world. The Parliament emphasized that legislative bodies represent the will of free peoples. It affirmed that the unjustified U.S. aggression waged by the Trump administration primarily targets civilians, including popular markets, residential areas, and civilian properties, constituting crimes against humanity and blatant violations of the United Nations Charter, international laws, and humanitarian norms—without any legal justification. The Parliament's letters stated that the U.S. aggression aligns with the American administration's support for the usurping Israeli enemy, attempting to cover up its brutal crimes against the Palestinian people in Gaza. The letters dismissed the Trump administration's claims about securing international navigation in the Red Sea as baseless lies aimed at misleading global public opinion, including the American people, to justify the U.S.'s atrocities against Yemen and its resources. The Parliament reiterated Yemen's commitment to maritime security in its territorial waters in accordance with international law and U.N. principles, affirming that Yemeni waters remain safe for international navigation—except for ships heading to or from occupied Palestinian ports, regardless of their nationality or pretexts. It stressed that Yemen's stance in support of the Palestinian cause does not violate international law but rather falls within Yemen's sovereign right to self-defense—a legitimate response to the war crimes and genocide committed by the Israeli killing machine with direct support from the Trump administration. Yemen considers this position a moral, humanitarian, and legal obligation in support of the Palestinian people's just struggle for freedom and dignity. The Parliament held the Trump administration fully responsible—legally, morally, and humanitarianly—for its war crimes and massacres against the Yemeni people and their resources, demanding compensation for all damages and losses inflicted by U.S. aggression on civilians, public , private properties, and Yemen's national assets. The letters called on regional and international parliaments to fulfill their duties in supporting the Palestinian people by enforcing International Criminal Court (ICC) decisions against Zionist war criminals and all those complicit in these crimes, while providing full support to the ICC to carry out its duties without pressure or blackmail. The Parliament emphasized the need for joint efforts to expose the hegemonic and arrogant policies of the U.S. administration, which seeks to control nations' resources and fuel conflicts in the region to serve its criminal agenda. It urged unified parliamentary efforts to confront these challenges, aggressions, and violations, adopting strong collective positions that uphold Palestinian rights, demand an end to Israeli occupation, and support the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Al-Quds as its capital. The letters praised the stances of some Arab, Islamic, international parliaments , parliamentarians in advocating for the Palestinian cause and supporting Yemen's position in solidarity with Gaza.
