Salunkhe and Deepika walk away with recurve bronzes

Parth Salunkhe and Deepika Kumari performed creditably well to clinch the recurve men's and women's individual bronze medals respectively on the concluding day of the Archery World Cup Stage-2 in Shanghai on Sunday. After getting beaten 6-4 by current Olympics champion Kim Woojin in a tough semifinal clash, 2023 World youth under-21 champion Salunkhe got the better of 18-year-old Paris Olympics men's team silver medallist Frenchman Baptiste Addis 6-4 in a keenly-fought bronze medal match. This was Salunkhe's maiden World Cup Stage medal. Four-time Olympian Deepika, who lost to Korea's reigning Olympic champion and World No.1 Lim Sihyeon 7-1 in the last-four stage, held her nerve to defeat another Korean, Tokyo Olympics team gold medallist Kang Chaeyoung, 7-3 in a battle for the bronze and bagged her first World Cup Stage medal of the season. 'I didn't expect anything from me. My mission is different. That is very important for me because there is a different environment, a different feeling, a little anxiety, a little happiness. I want to achieve that (gold) in that place,' Deepika told World Archery on her 2028 Olympics ambition. The results: Recurve: Men: Parth Salunkhe lost to Kim Woojin (Kor) 6-4 (27-26, 30-28, 27-28, 28-29, 28-25) (semifinal), bt Baptiste Addis (Fra) 6-4 (30-28, 28-28, 25-25, 27-30, 29-28) (bronze medal match). Women: Deepika Kumari lost to Lim Sihyeon (Kor) 7-1 (27-26, 28-28, 30-28, 29-28) (semifinal), bt Kang Chaeyoung (Kor) 7-3 (27-27, 28-27, 27-30, 30-29, 29-28) (bronze medal match).

Deepika, Parth win bronze as India finish with seven medals in Shanghai Archery World Cup

Shanghai, May 11 (UNI) Olympian Deepika Kumari and emerging archer Parth Salunkhe secured bronze medals in the individual recurve events as India concluded their campaign with seven medals at the Archery World Cup 2025 here. Deepika, seeded 12th, defeated South Korea's Olympic gold medallist Kang Chae-young 7-3 in the women's individual recurve bronze medal match on Sunday. The victory marked Deepika's 37th World Cup medal, reinforcing her status as one of India's most accomplished archers. The 29-year-old had earlier overcome Paris 2024 silver medallist Li Jiaman of China 6-2 in quarterfinals before losing 7-1 to reigning Olympic champion Lim Sihyeon of South Korea in the semis. In the men's recurve category, 60th seed Parth Salunkhe produced a series of stunning performances to clinch his bronze medal. He overcame French archer Baptiste Addis, a Paris 2024 team silver medallist, 6-4 in the third-place match. Salunkhe had earlier shocked Tokyo 2020 Olympic champion Mete Gazoz in a shootoff and outclassed South Korea's Kim Je Deok — a triple Olympic gold medallist — 6-2 in the quarterfinals. His run ended in the semi-finals with a narrow 6-4 loss to South Korean Olympic champion Kim Woojin. India's recurve teams, including the mixed pair of Deepika and Dhiraj Bommadevara, the men's trio of Tarundeep Rai, Atanu Das and Dhiraj, and the women's team of Deepika, Ankita Bhakat and Anshika Kumari, missed out on podium finishes. The compound archers, however, delivered a strong showing with five medals. Madhura Dhamangaonkar won gold in women's individual compound, while the men's team of Ojas Deotale, Abhishek Verma and Rishabh Yadav secured gold in the team event. The women's team took silver, and there were bronze medals for the mixed pair (Abhishek-Madhura) and Rishabh in the individual men's compound. The third stage of the Archery World Cup will be held in Antalya, Turkiye, from June 3 to 8, followed by the Madrid leg in July and the World Cup Final in Nanjing, China, in October. UNI BDN RN

Deepika, Parth bag bronze as India finish with 7 medals at Archery World Cup Stage 2

Seasoned archer Deepika Kumari and Parth Salunkhe bagged bronze medals as India finished their campaign with seven medals at the Archery World Cup Stage 2 on Sunday. In a tense bronze medal match, Deepika defeated Tokyo Olympic team gold medallist Kang Chaeyoung of Korea with a 7-3 scoreline. Her victory marked India's first medal of the year in the women's recurve category and her 12th individual World Cup medal. She delivered two outstanding final sets, scoring a perfect 30 and a near-perfect 29, to secure the win. Deepika was the only non-Korean to reach the women's recurve semifinals, preventing a Korean sweep by clinching bronze after a 1-7 loss to Paris Olympic champion Lim Sihyeon in the semi-final. Parth Salunkhe, the reigning U21 world champion, claimed his first World Cup medal in the men's recurve category. He edged past Paris Olympic medallist Baptiste Addis of France 6-4 in a nail-biting bronze medal match. Parth had earlier put up a strong fight in the semi-final clash against South Korea's Kim Woo Jin, rallying from two sets down to level the match, but a final-shot 7 in the deciding set saw him fall short 4-6. In the bronze match, he again entered the final set at 4-4 but held his nerve with back-to-back 10s to seal victory. His win marked India's second straight medal in the men's recurve, following Dhiraj's bronze at the Florida World Cup. With these two bronze medals in recurve events, India wrapped up the Shanghai World Cup with a total of seven medals: 2 gold, 1 silver, and 4 bronze.
