Residents fed up with Nosoob Baru road conditions

Published on: Wednesday, May 28, 2025 Published on: Wed, May 28, 2025 Text Size: PENAMPANG: After more than a year of enduring hazardous road conditions, residents of Kampung Nosoob Baru are demanding urgent action from local authorities. They are citing safety concerns, property damage, and a complete lack of accountability. Michelle Chin Ling Ling, Parti Impian Sabah Treasurer and Kapayan Division Chief, criticised the inaction by the Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat (UPPM). Advertisement 'The residents of Kg Nosoob Baru have been enduring severely damaged road conditions for over a year. "Despite multiple reports submitted to UPPM, there has been no concrete action taken. 'The only response received so far has been waiting for funds. This ongoing delay has caused daily inconvenience and concern for the villagers," she said. Chin added that Parti Impian Sabah is calling on the public to pressure on the UPPM through social media and other platforms to push for urgent repairs. 'Our community deserves safe and accessible roads. We cannot afford to wait any longer," she stressed. Among the frustrated residents is Eric Constantine, who suffered a tire blowout after hitting one of the many potholes in the village. 'I hit a pothole in my village and my tire got completely torn. 'We've already informed the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), and we're still waiting for the PPM to take any action. "This road has been full of holes for so long, and the response has been incredibly slow. We keep reporting it and nothing gets done.' He expressed concern over reports that the area's appointed PPM officer had resigned after joining an independent political party. 'The people don't care if the PPM quit or switched parties, just get someone who can actually do the job. "This is about road safety, not politics. What if a motorcyclist hits a pothole and gets seriously injured or worse? 'And where do I go to claim compensation for my damaged tire?' he added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Parti Impian Sabah promises early candidate announcement, no room for last-minute lobbying

KOTA KINABALU: Parti Impian Sabah (PIS) will announce its candidates for the 17th Sabah state election ahead of time, with no room for last-minute lobbying or changes, says party president Michel Alok. He said the party had finalised candidates for 60 out of 73 constituencies, and was confident that the remaining seats would be completed soon. 'We don't have a system where candidates lobby at the last minute. Once someone is selected, that's it – there will be no changing or lobbying anymore,' he said during the party's Aidilfitri open house event held in Sandakan recently. Michel said this approach would distinguish PIS from other parties, where lobbying and last-minute changes often disrupted election plans and undermined trust. He said early announcements would give candidates more time to serve the people on the ground, rather than focusing on internal politics. PIS has also pledged to ensure that at least a portion of its candidates are women and from a diverse range of age groups. 'We have already identified four women candidates for now,' he said. Michel added that age would not be a barrier for candidates, as the party believed that both experienced and young leaders could offer valuable contributions. 'What matters is not whether a candidate is young or old, but whether they are healthy, ready to serve, and have a mission to truly help the people,' he said. He reiterated that PIS would not be forming any political alliances, adding that coalitions often led to leadership struggles and slow decision-making. 'Too many heads result in too many ideas and delays. We want a government where decisions are made today and implemented tomorrow,' he said. PIS, officially registered in December 2023, announced its intention to contest all 73 state seats during its first annual general meeting in December 2024.

Parti Impian Sabah to contest in all 73 state seats

Published on: Tuesday, April 29, 2025 Published on: Tue, Apr 29, 2025 By: Mardinah Jikur Text Size: Michel also said that 30 per cent of the candidates would be women. SANDAKAN: Parti Impian Sabah (PIS) will field candidates in all 73 state seats in the coming 17th State Election (PRN17). Its President Michel Alok said 60 divisions are already prepared, with the remaining divisions also set to introduce their candidates. He said that stand is to move solo and not make any coalition with others. 'However, after the PRN, if a coalition is needed, it will be considered carefully, as any coalition should benefit the people of Sabah who want change, while also allowing the State to make its own decisions for development without outside involvement,' he said at a Hari Raya Aidilfitri gathering organised by PIS Islamic Affairs at Jmiela Event Hall, here, on Sunday. Also present were the party leadership at the state and divisional levels. Michel also said that 30 per cent of the candidates would be women. 'So far, four candidates have been identified, alongside young and veteran candidates who are seen to have strong leadership potential,' he said. Regarding the state-level Hari Raya celebration, he said the event served as a platform for party members to meet and celebrate the festival together, rather than only at the divisional level. * Follow us on Instagram and join our Telegram and/or WhatsApp channel(s) for the latest news you don't want to miss. * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news?
