PKR may act against division committee members threatening to resign

KEPALA BATAS: PKR may take disciplinary action against any division committee members who threaten to resign following the recent divisional elections or attempt to disrupt the smooth running of the upcoming PKR National Congress. Its communications director, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, said such individuals may also be blacklisted from contesting if a re-election is required due to their resignation. "The secretary-general (Dr Fuziah Salleh) mentioned earlier that some divisions have committee members threatening to step down simply because they disagree with or dislike the elected division chief. "She said that if such action is taken, the Party Election Committee, together with her, has decided that if a re-election becomes necessary, all those involved may be blacklisted and barred from contesting again," he told reporters after attending the Jelajah Kita Keadilan event at Dewan Tok Mat Yahoo here last night, which was also attended by Fuziah. Fahmi was responding to a group of division committee members from Lenggong and Masjid Tanah, who had threatened to resign following their dissatisfaction with the results of the party's divisional elections last month. However, Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said that after further clarification was provided to both division committees, the groups decided to reconsider and ultimately withdrew their resignation plans. He added that the election process had been lively and peaceful, with no incidents of violence, property damage, or public disturbance — making this round of elections more effective and better managed than in the past. On preparations for the PKR National Congress from May 23 to 25 in Johor Baru, Fahmi said arrangements are progressing smoothly. The Jelajah Kita Keadilan roadshow, organised by the Secretary-General's Office and the election committee, has already visited several locations. "The programme will continue until next week. It's a positive and neutral initiative. We do not allow bloc or group campaigning. Even on polling day, the use of 'cai' (preferred candidate lists) will not be permitted. "I've reviewed the election system — candidate photos are uploaded with a uniform light blue background — showing that we are moving away from factional politics. Instead, all candidates are contesting as part of the greater Keadilan family," he said. The PKR National Congress, including the AMK and Wanita Congress, will take place from May 21 to 24, with polling scheduled for May 23.

PKR re-election sees new division chiefs in Selayang, Jempol and Pasir Salak

KUALA LUMPUR: Today's PKR re-election exercise led to changes in the division chief posts for Selayang in Selangor, Jempol in Negri Sembilan and Pasir Salak in Perak. The Selayang division chief post was won by Rawang assemblyman Chua Wei Kiat, while PKR President's Office political secretary Manivanan Gowin won in Jempol, and Hisamuddin Ali secured victory in Pasir Salak. However, the re-election for the Silam division chief post in Lahad Datu maintained the status quo, with Romansa Lamin retaining his position. According to announcements on the PKR 2025 Election website, Wei Kiat won the Selayang division chief post with 1,945 votes, defeating Wan Ibnul Bahar Wan Ismail, who received 1,693 votes. Another candidate was disqualified from contesting. In today's re-election, 3,647 members cast their votes out of 4,705 eligible voters. In the previous round, Wei Kiat, who is also PKR deputy information chief, lost in a three-cornered fight. For the Jempol division, Manivanan won with 571 votes, defeating Muhammad Asri Abdullah (229 votes) and K. Mariappan (52 votes). During the April 13 election, Azizah Salim Shah had been declared the winner with 450 votes. However, her victory was later nullified by the Party Election Committee after it was discovered that she was still a member of Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) at the time — a violation of PKR's membership rules. In Pasir Salak, a surprise outcome saw Hisamuddin take the division chief post from previous winner Mohamad Yusof Majid. In today's vote, Hisamuddin secured 944 votes, defeating Mohamad Maharani Md Tasi, who is also the Perak Menteri Besar's special officer for the Sungai Manik state constituency, with 677 votes. In Silam, Romansa retained his post after defeating Mohd Syafiq Iqhmal Saharudin (4 votes) and Rubiah Onga (483 votes). Romansa is now entering his third term as Silam division chief since 2018. In the previous April 21 election, Romansa was declared the winner with 445 votes, but the committee called for a re-election after discovering that one of the listed candidates had died. The deceased's name remained in the system, and some voters had cast ballots for him. The Silam PKR Youth chief post was also contested again. Muhammad Firdaus Charlie won narrowly with 144 votes, while his opponent Mohd Syafiq Iqhmal Saharudin received 124 votes. Meanwhile, in Terengganu, Wan Azizah Wan Abas won the re-election for the Besut women's division chief post with 308 votes, defeating Wan Maziah Hussain, who received 271 votes.

Anwar: Objections don't mean PKR polls are unjust

KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has dismissed concerns that PKR's upcoming leadership elections will be unjust, despite complaints over the recent branch-level results. He said complaints did not automatically indicate unfairness in the process. "Just because there are objections doesn't mean the system is unjust — that would be a prejudicial assumption. "All complaints are being reviewed, and international auditors are now examining each case," he told reporters after officiating the groundbreaking ceremony for the Rumah Belia Madani and affordable housing project in Mukim Batu today. Anwar was responding to a question on whether the party elections would be conducted fairly. On April 25, PKR's Party Election Committee confirmed it was reviewing multiple appeals related to the division-level polls. Committee chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa said the status of the appeals — including those from Selayang, Jempol and Silam — would be announced this week. At least four party leaders who lost in the polls since April 11 have submitted appeals. Among them is Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir, who contested for the Johor Bahru branch chief post. Others who have filed objections include PKR communications director Lee Chean Chung (Petaling Jaya), deputy information chief Chua Wei Kiat (Selayang), and Sungai Siput MP Kesavan Subramaniam. Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who lost to actor-director Datuk Afdlin Shauki by 68 votes in Setiawangsa, has also said he will raise the matter through official channels.

Zaliha confirms re-elections for Selayang, Jempol, Silam

SHAH ALAM: Party Election Committee of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has confirmed that re-elections will be held for the Selayang, Jempol and Silam branches. Its chairman, Dr Zaliha Mustafa, announced that an internal notice would be sent to the three affected branches later, reported Sinar Harian . "Yes, only at several levels. I will provide notice later. An internal notice will be sent to the branches," she told reporters after the Federal Territory Semarak Aidilfitri program in Putrajaya on Thursday (April 24). This statement was made in response to speculation about re-election due to various reasons raised by several candidates who recently lost their positions. Zaliha also confirmed that the committee has received several complaints regarding the election results in certain party branches, but these matters are still under review. "There is no final decision yet. The committee's decision has not been finalised, so we cannot list the winners of those who contested," she added. Among the prominent figures who lost in the election were Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad and Deputy Energy Transition and Water Transformation Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir. In related news, Zaliha mentioned that the number of complaints and appeals received by the committee for this election was significantly lower than in the previous election. Regarding allegations of inaccuracies in the election and unusual results, Zaliha defended the use of a 'blockchain' system in the election as fraud-proof, asserting that it is far superior to the previous election process.
