SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — Keep your personal documents from falling into the wrong hands by taking part in the annual Shred Event in Sioux Falls. You can drop off your sensitive documents at Lincoln, Roosevelt, Sioux Falls Christian and Washington High Schools from 8 a.m. to noon. You're asked to make a $5 donation per bag or box with the money raised going to Sioux Empire Crime Stoppers. Party for the Planet is an Earth Day celebration taking place at Sertoma Park in Sioux event is hosted by the Great Plains Zoo and Butterfly House & Aquarium. Activities include a river cleanup from 10 a.m. to noon, plus a Siouxland Libraries book hike and free fishing provided by The Outdoor Campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The El Riad Shrine Circus features three performances at the Sioux Falls Arena. Show times are 9 a.m., 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets are $20, $5 for children. Explore the unique, urban living spaces that define the heart of Sioux Falls. The Spring Downtown Loft Tour is a free, self-guided exploration of both occupied and available lofts. The tours run from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. AMC Collective is hosting a Kite Make & Take. Decorate your own kite using a premade kit from noon to 3 p.m. The cost is $4. The Lake County Museum and Madison Public Library are hosting a Reader's Fair. The free event is taking place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Dakota Prairie Playhouse and includes book signings by local authors plus humorist Garrison Keillor live on stage at 10 a.m. The Al Opland Singers present their Spring Festival of Song at the Pipestone Performing Arts Center. The performance is at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $20, $5 for students. Movies playing in the historic State Theater in downtown Sioux Falls include The Toxic Avenger, Clerks and A Walk in the Woods, all rated R. The Wells Fargo CineDome & Sweetman Planetarium at the Washington Pavilion features T-Rex, Mars: The Ultimate Voyage, 3-2-1 Liftoff and Robot Explorers. New movie releases playing at a theater near you include The Legend of Ochi, rated PG, plus The Accountant 2 and Until Dawn, both rated R. Beardsley's Zoo hosts ‘Party for the Planet'
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WNTH) — Beardsley's Zoo celebrated Earth Day early with a 'Party for the Planet' on Saturday. The event featured educational hands-on activities, sustainability-themed exhibits and conservation efforts from the community. University of New Haven hosts sustainability fair focusing on Long Island Sound 'This is a community effort, right,' said Associate Curator of Education Carolyn Rinaldi. 'We're Connecticut's Beardsley Zoo. We're the only zoo in Connecticut, but we have a lot of community outreach.' Organizers said the event was meant to inspire environmental action through art, education and community involvement. 'Carrying the activities that we do at the zoo to how to create a better environment for the planet right in your own backyard,' Rinaldi said. Topeka Zoo holding party for Earth Day celebration
TOPEKA (KSNT) – The Topeka Zoo & Conservation Center will be hosting a party for its annual Earth Day celebration this Saturday. The Topeka Zoo will hold its Party for the Planet event from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 19. Zoo guests will be able to visit nearly 40 stations with educational and hands-on activities for kids to participate in. The educational stations include crafts, edible treats, face painting, lessons on casting and fishing and other environmental messages. 'Joining us for this celebration will be local outside agencies from around Kansas, helping spread information and awareness about how we can be friendlier to our planet & those who inhabit it.' Topeka Zoo press release excerpt This year, the Zoo will be holding an Earth Day Clothing Drive with the goal of collecting 8,500 pounds of clothes. Clothes and shoes can be donated throughout the day in the south parking lot of the Zoo. Mesker Park to host Party for the Planet
HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – Mesker Park Zoo & Botanic Garden will be 'partying for the planet' to honor and celebrate our planet and the diversity of live that calls it home. The free event for members will host activities that highlight the theme of 'Spring into Action', including live music, animal encounters, the penguin palooza scavenger hunt, lawn games, educational recycling stations, seed planting and lessons on Agroforestry.
