Cops hold drill to boost response strategies

Chennai: The city police, as part of efforts to enhance rapid response and crime containment strategies, conducted a security drill across 18 key locations including the Secretariat and RBI premises over two days. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Red Alert, held for two hours on Thursday and Friday evening, is part of a larger initiative spearheaded by commissioner A Arun and includes a colour-coded system under which red is for terrorist and bomb threats, amber for murders and heinous crime, and green for offences such as robbery and chain snatching. During Thursday's operation, concentrated in North Chennai under additional commissioner Parvesh Kumar and joint commissioner M Manohar, vehicles were inspected, identities verified and potential escape routes commonly used by offenders monitored. At Chennai port, personnel led by Harbour police station assistanct commissioner teams simulated a high-risk infiltration scenario to assess readiness. Earlier in the week, in an operation led by joint commissioner Dr P Vijayakumar a similar mock exercise in the East Zone covering Egmore and Kilpauk, plainclothes officers posed as suspects to evaluate perimeter security and coordination among enforcement units. A senior officers said the ongoing drills aim to map the escape strategies of criminals and build operational models to allow police to seal off routes and neutralise threats swiftly. "With this structure, no matter where a crime occurs, our officers can immediately act, intercept, and apprehend suspects within a short time frame." Police later said Red Alert operations will continue at regular intervals across the city to ensure preparedness for real-time emergencies.

Delhi: Teen killed in Mahendra Park area over DJ dispute; 4 juveniles apprehended

New Delhi [India], May 18 (ANI): An 18-year-old succumbed to fatal stab injuries following a violent altercation in the Mahendra Park area of North-West Delhi. The victim, identified as Bheem Sen, a resident of Village Badhola, was rushed to BJRM Hospital but was declared dead during treatment. According to Delhi Police, the Mahendra Park PS received a medico-legal case (MLC) report regarding the stabbing incident on Saturday evening. Preliminary inquiries revealed that the deceased had suffered two stab wounds during a physical altercation that escalated fatally. Investigations have uncovered that the incident stemmed from a dispute over DJ arrangements, which occurred a day prior on May 16. In a retaliatory act, four individuals reportedly acquaintances of the victim attacked him with a knife the following day with the intent to kill. Following the incident, a crime team and personnel from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were called to the scene for detailed examination. The victim's body has been preserved at BJRM Mortuary for post-mortem. A case has been registered at Police Station Mahendra Park under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code. Four Children in Conflict with Law (CCLs) have been apprehended in connection with the case. Efforts are currently underway to trace and recover the weapon used in the crime. Further investigation is ongoing. Earlier the Crime Branch of Delhi Police arrested a man wanted in connection with a murder case that occurred in Narela six months ago. The accused, Parvesh Kumar alias Dhillu, was apprehended on May 16 for allegedly killing a man who had reportedly eve-teased his sister. According to police, the accused had been on the run since the murder of Sumit, a resident of Mandora village in Sonipat, Haryana, who operated a seed and fertiliser shop in Narela. The killing was reportedly carried out by Parvesh Kumar with the help of his cousins, Deepanshu alias Golu and Rahul Hooda, as an act of revenge. Police stated that a specific input regarding Parvesh Kumar's whereabouts was received and further developed through technical surveillance. Acting on this, the Crime Branch team successfully tracked and arrested the accused. (ANI)
