Is There Mail on Good Friday?

Good Friday falls on April 18 this year. It occurs a few days before Easter, prompting questions about if the United States Postal Service (USPS), the United Parcel Service (UPS) and FedEx will deliver mail and packages as usual. The date of Easter changes every year since it occurs on the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, which is the full moon that occurs on or after the spring equinox. This year, Easter falls on April 20. Several holidays related to Easter also take place during the week, including Palm Sunday, Holy Thursday, and Good Friday, which occurs the Friday before Easter. Ash Wednesday is observed 46 days before Easter and marks the first day of Lent. The USPS will deliver mail as it normally would on Good Friday. The USPS doesn't deliver ordinary mail on Sundays, but it will deliver Priority Mail and Priority Mail Express on Easter Sunday. Priority mail has a one- to three-day delivery and is often used for heavy packages. This can include packages shipped by Amazon and delivered by USPS workers. Its locations will be closed and no deliveries or pickups will occur. FedEx will be open on Good Friday, but some of its services might be modified, according to a 2025 holiday calendar sent to Newsweek. Full moon tonight: Best time to see the pink ‘micromoon'—and why it might leave you restless

As the old folklore goes, if you are feeling extra tired and cranky this week, the upcoming full moon might be to blame. And while you definitely won't turn into a werewolf, there is some data to suggest the old folklore is true, even if the scientific research on the topic is limited: A 2013 sleep study found that during a full moon, participants spent 30% less time in deep sleep and lost out on 20 minutes of slumber on average. This tiny screw is powering the humanoid robot revolution Costco is the new Target Why delegating tasks is so hard—and how to get better at it However, skywatchers are in for a treat this weekend, even if they may be missing a little sleep, as a full moon will rise on Saturday night. Here's what to know about the full moon, and how best to see it. Typically there are 12 full moons a year, one for every month. Each of these has a nickname given to it by the Old Farmer's Almanac, based on Native American culture and other traditional North American historical sources. April's full moon is known as the Pink Moon, but this does not refer to the color of the orb. It is based on the flowers that begin to bloom in spring. There are other names for April's full moon that celebrate the season. The Algonquin called it the Breaking Ice Moon, while the Lakota dubbed it the Moon When the Ducks Come Back. Even within the same tribe, there were different preferred monikers. The Dakota referred to it as both the Moon When the Streams Are Again Navigable, and the Moon When the Geese Lay Eggs. Beyond its colorful name, the full Pink Moon will occur just before apogee—this fancy NASA vocab word means the moon is the farthest away from Earth during its elliptical orbit. Because of the distance, the full Pink Moon is considered a 'micromoon,' as it is smaller and dimmer to the human eye compared to a normal full moon or a supermoon. Full moons are also a tool used by the Christian Church to determine when the Easter holiday will occur. Christmas is always December 25, but Easter is on the Sunday after the so-called Paschal Full Moon. So this year, the full Pink Moon and the Paschal Full Moon happen to be two names for the same celestial event, depending on your religious preferences. This is not always the case. To catch a glimpse of this cosmic wonder, head outside on April 12. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the moon will rise at 8:22 p.m. EDT. For best viewing, find a location away from bright city lights. A pair of binoculars or a telescope will help you see more details of the moon. If you need something to look forward to, the night sky has your back. On the evenings of April 21 and 22, the annual Lyrid meteor shower will reach its peak. More to come on this cosmic wonder. ‘Pink micromoon' hovers over San Diego

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — On Saturday, San Diegans — at least those in areas with minimal cloud cover — were treated to a celestial spectacle as April's full 'pink moon' rose over the horizon. It was also considered a 'micromoon'—a phenomenon where the moon appears slightly smaller and dimmer due to its position at the farthest point from Earth in its orbit. The 'pink moon' reached its peak illumination at 5:22 p.m. locally, according to The Old Farmer's Almanac. Despite its name, the 'pink moon' doesn't necessarily give off a pink hue; instead, the name originates from the blooming of pink phlox flowers during this time of year. It's also considered a 'micromoon' because this year's 'pink moon' was approximately 252,225 miles away from Earth, as explained by The Old Farmer's Almanac. This distance is about 6% greater than the average full moon, making it appear slightly smaller and dimmer in the night sky. The photo below, captured by Jim Grant, was taken from San Diego's Linda Vista area on Saturday. The 'pink moon' holds cultural significance as well, according to Almanac. In Christianity, it's known as the 'Paschal Full Moon,' as it's the first ecclesiastical full moon of spring (after the equinox). Almanac explains that the moon also determines the date of Easter this year. Looking ahead, the next full moon will occur on May 12, traditionally known as the Flower Moon, marking the peak of spring's floral bloom. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. A Rare Pink Micromoon Will Light Up the April Sky—Here's When to See It

Our eyes are always on the stars—both in the world of country music and up in the sky. This month, we have many things to be excited about, from new music from some of our favorite artists to a celestial event worth setting a reminder for. This weekend, we're treated to a special pink full moon, set to light up the sky on Saturday, April 12, and into Sunday, April 13. Read on to find out its significance and when it'll appear in the sky. The pink full moon is a bit of a misnomer (unfortunately), as it won't actually look like an orb of pretty pink light up in the sky. Instead, the April full moon gets its name from the gorgeous hot pink creeping phlox known to achieve peak bloom this time of year. Beyond its floral inspiration, April's full moon is also dubbed the Paschal Full Moon, or the first full moon to follow the spring equinox. Every year, Easter falls after the Paschal Full Moon. This year, Easter is on Sunday, April 20. The April full moon, which officially signifies the start of spring from a lunar stance, has a number of other names, too. As NASA reported, it's also widely known as the Sprouting Grass Moon, the Egg Moon, and the Fish Moon. According to the US Naval Observatory, the pink full moon will reach peak illumination at 8:22 p.m. ET on April 12. You may notice, however, that it looks smaller and dimmer than your average full moon. That's because, according to this year's pink moon is a 'micromoon,' meaning it's farthest from Earth during its orbit. 'The moon does not orbit Earth in a perfect circle but an ellipse, and we call a full moon that happens at or near the moon's farthest point from Earth–the 'apogee'–a micromoon,' Catherine Muller, an astronomer at the Royal Observatory Greenwich, told Country Living UK. According to beloved mystic Bri Luna (AKA The Hoodwitch), the pink full moon in Libra may bring a wave of emotions with it. 'This lunation squares the action planet Mars, which is in Cancer,' she shared on Instagram. 'We'll be more apt to take on matters of importance and make an effort to work on how we can transform partnerships. This is when we can fulfill our greatest expectations and set ourselves up for success. Think of the desires of what you want to add to your life. Then, ask the universe for it.' Why is April's full moon called the 'Pink Moon?' What to know about spring's first full moon

April's full moon is this weekend, signifying the first full moon phase of spring. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, the "Pink Moon" represents the "return of life and the resurgence of nature after winter's dormancy." Although the moon won't turn pink, it's still worth looking at, said Starwalk, especially as the evenings get warmer in the Northern Hemisphere. Here's what to know. The next full moon, the "Pink Moon" will occur on Saturday, April 12, 2025. According to the almanac, the full moon will reach peak illumination at 7:22 p.m. CT. April's full moon won't really turn a shade of pink. According to Starwalk, the name was given to the moon by Native Americans to represent the color of the wild ground phlox — one of the earliest flowers to bloom in April. The perennial bloom is most often pink, but also has shades of purple and white, said the almanac. April's full, "Pink Moon" is known as the Paschal Full Moon, which sets the date for Easter. According to Starwalk, the Paschal full moon is the first full moon after the March equinox, which in 2025 fell on March 20. Traditionally, western Christian churches (Roman Catholic and Protestant) celebrate Easter on the Sunday following the Paschal Full Moon. Therefore, Easter will be observed on April 20 in 2025. April's full moon will be at its farthest point from Earth, known as apogee, said Starwalk. Consequently, it will appear approximately 5.1% smaller in diameter than usual, earning it the name micromoon, which is the opposite of a supermoon. However, the size difference is so subtle that it might go unnoticed. 🌓 First Quarter: April 5 🌕 Full Moon: April 13 🌗 Last Quarter: April 21 🌑 New Moon: April 27 The next full moon, also known as the "Flower Moon," will occur on May 12, at 11:56 CT.
