Michael Dunlop takes Supertwin glory to increase Isle of Man TT tally to 31: ‘I still want to improve'

Dunlop has been the man to beat in the class in recent years and he followed up his double in 2024 with another comfortable win on the Italian Paton S1-R, coming home over 22 seconds ahead of Manxman Michael Evans (Dafabet Racing Kawasaki), who was celebrating his first TT podium on his birthday. Dunlop's latest victory – his second of race week after he won Monday's opening Supersport race – was a record 48th podium for the Ballymoney man. Wigan's Rob Hodson was also celebrating his first TT podium as he finished third on the SMT Racing Paton, 13 seconds behind runner-up Evans. Dunlop said: 'I felt good and just got bedded into it, and I thought it was Michael [Evans]. I was up 10 seconds on him and I assumed that's who it was. 'Obviously this job here is just a nursing match and the bike wasn't overly strong today for some reason – that's not being rude to the lads – the bike was good, but it just lacked a wee bit and Michael kept trying to pass me. 'I think he realised there was no point because I'd jam it back in again! 'Thanks to the Paton lads again and it's 31 wins now, and I'd like to thank them and I appreciate all the work they do for me. 'My Italian's not great and my English is even worse, but I've a great working relationship and I've a lot of time for the boys and we'll sit down tonight, improve and keep going. I'm happy, everything's good.' Reflecting on yet another win around the legendary 37.73-mile Mountain Course, Dunlop said he was feeling good with two wins from four races so far. 'It's nice, 31 wins, and the week's been good,' he added. 'We've had ups and downs, ins and outs, and everything else for that matter, but that's the TT and I'm sitting with two wins this week already. 'Folk come here hunting for wins and I've got two, so just keep pushing and I'm happy riding, so I'm good.' Last year, the 36-year-old surpassed his uncle Joey's record of 26 wins, which had stood since 2000. Dunlop won four races 12 months ago for the second consecutive year and is already on course to repeat the feat. He will have another strong chance in Wednesday's second Supersport race, which is scheduled for 10:45am. The second Sidecar race is also set to take place at 2pm. Tuesday's race schedule was switched to an evening contingency plan after heavy rain and high winds on Monday night left roads wet in places and deemed unsuitable for racing in the afternoon following an inspection lap. North West 200 Supertwin race winner Paul Jordan narrowly missed out on a podium last night on the Jackson Racing Aprilia by only 1.757s to Hodson. Davey Todd, Monday's Superbike winner, was fifth on the Milenco by Padgett's Racing Paton with Dominic Herbertson completing the top six on the Melbray Racing Paton ahead of Ulsterman Adam McLean (Flitwick Yamaha). A second Supertwin race is due to be held on Friday, when Dunlop will be the favourite for honours once more.

Kelty Hearts chance was too good to turn down, says ex-Albion Rovers ace

Michael Paton is assistant manager at the League One club Michael Paton says leaving Albion Rovers was difficult, but an assistant manager's role at Kelty Hearts was too good to knock back. Paton, 36, left a player-coach role at Cliftonhill and hung up his boots after a three-year spell in Coatbridge. ‌ The opportunity came up to join Tom O'Ware at League One Kelty, utilising experience gained from a seven-month spell as Brechin City boss in 2020-21, and former Aberdeen and Dunfermline midfielder Paton can't wait to get started. ‌ He said: 'It was too good a chance to knock back. 'It's no different from a footballer – if an opportunity arises at a higher level, you're going to take it. 'Me coming towards the end of my playing, it was a really good opportunity, and I'm just really looking forward to the season starting, now. 'I fully understand the pressures of management, because I've been in it myself at Brechin, and I know how important it is that you've got someone at the side who takes the responsibility, so he can focus on playing on a Saturday. 'I think he knows I understand the process, and I know the parts that I need to take away from him, so he can fully focus on the game on Saturday. ‌ 'I have a lot of playing experience in this league, I've won it twice, so I know what's required to get up the top of the table.' Paton added: 'I've got a great connection with Albion Rovers. I was there the last three years, went as a player to being on the management team and helping the success and development from there. 'We were building a squad nearly every season and trying to get somewhere with Rovers – I have a real connection with the board, management team and fans.' Midfielder Kai Kirkpatrick has also joined Kelty Hearts, while Paul Kennedy moved to Lowland League rivals Linlithgow Rose, amid some serious financial hardships at Rovers that will see them expenses only next season. Paton said: 'It's a shame what has happened, but they have a lot of good people at the club who want to make this right, so I have no doubt you'll see Albion Rovers turn the corner in the next year or so. 'I thank them for everything I did for the last three years, but now my full focus is on progressing with Kelty.'

Legendary UK retailer set to return 13 years after collapsing into administration and shutting 240 stores

OnBuy's CEO weighed in on the store's return BACK IN ACTION Legendary UK retailer set to return 13 years after collapsing into administration and shutting 240 stores Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A LEGENDARY UK retailer is set to make a stunning comeback more than a decade after shuttering its stores. Electricals retailer Comet ceased operations in 2012 but has been snapped up by online marketplace OnBuy. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 Online marketplace OnBuy has pumped £10million of investment into reviving electricals store Comet Credit: Getty The latter confirmed to The Sun that the chain would relaunch in either September or October, and definitely before Christmas following a mammoth £10million investment. It will stock thousands of products from a selection of flagship brands including Apple, Samsung, Sony and LG. It is estimated that between 50 and 60 jobs will be created following what Cas Paton, founder and CEO of OnBuy, has described as a "significant launch". He added that he wants to "bring Comet back to its former glory in a modern world" and that the store has "nostalgic value" for British punters. Paton added: "Comet is a brand long associated with offering the very best deals in home appliances and consumer electronics. "Its heritage is one that we want to protect and enhance using our innovative technology and business model." What is OnBuy? OnBuy is one of the fastest-growing e-commerce marketplaces in the world. The company boasts a range of over 35million products while offering big savings for customers. It prides itself on being a fair and transparent business that puts buyers and sellers first. When was OnBuy created? The UK Dorset-based online shopping platform, OnBuy was launched by Cas Paton in November 2016. Shock Closure: Fisher Tours Ends Operations After 22 Years Speaking about the founding OnBuy, Paton told the Retail Bulletin in July 2023: "I've been involved in web development since I was a teenager and started my first company while studying at university. "Entrepreneurship has always been in my blood, and I set up my first business at the age of 21. "I've had other ventures along the way, but in 2016 I founded OnBuy and decided to dedicate all my time, effort, and money into making it a success. "It's been quite a journey and recently OnBuy was recognised as 'Europe's fastest-growing ecommerce business' by the Financial Times." The company launched globally in the summer of 2020 after securing a £5million investment. OnBuy's founder and CEO Paton projected the thriving business to be turning over £2billion in sales by 2024. Following a 1,100 per cent sales increase in 2019, OnBuy embarked on an aggressive international expansion plan into 140 new territories — including the US, Germany, France, Spain and the UAE. To accommodate the company's rapid growth, OnBuy tripled its workforce in 2020 to more than 50 full-time staff. Paton said: "The injection of this additional funding not only allows us to substantially grow the operational side of the business, but it gives the OnBuy team backing from phenomenal investors who can bring an array of eCommerce experience and expertise to the table, bolstering an already strong globalisation strategy. "2020 is a coming-of-age era for OnBuy, where we've seen some of the world's largest brands and retailers come on board. "By having products from the leading household names available, including Procter & Gamble, Unilever and Kimberly-Clark, we are driving better competition which feeds into better pricing for consumers across a huge variety of products. "We are well on track to claim 3-5 per cent of the £84billion UK eCommerce market in the next three years, and we're aiming for one per cent of the $3.46 trillion global e-commerce market, equating to $35bn, in the next five years. "We're gearing up for an enormous expansion into over 140 new countries, which will allow OnBuy to become the first global marketplace and further set ourselves apart from the competition."
