Patrice Wilson's legacy: Transforming lives through nursing scholarships in Detroit

The Brief Two years have passed since a young mother and nurse was murdered by a former boyfriend. Many are keeping the legacy of Patrice Wilson alive through the act of caring. 'Nursing from the D' handed a Dorsey College nursing student a lifeline to a brighter future. MADISON HEIGHTS, Mich. (FOX 2) - It has been two years since a young mother and nurse was murdered by a former boyfriend, but the death of Patrice Wilson did not stop her from transforming lives. Now, many are keeping the legacy of Wilson alive through the act of caring. What they're saying On Wednesday afternoon, 'Nursing from the D' handed a Dorsey College nursing student a lifeline to a brighter future. That lifeline resulted from the tragedy when Patrice was killed. "Shortly after she passed away, I decided to continue something that we started together, and the first thing I wanted to do to honor her is to start a scholarship in her name," said Nurse and Co-Founder Deandra Brown. Dig deeper Patrice was a nurse at Detroit Receiving Hospital when she left work in May 2023, she was kidnapped by her ex-boyfriend, who disguised his appearance. She was later found murdered, and he was sentenced for the crime. Patrice was a mother, and one of the requirements is that the scholarship recipient have a child. Sapphire Smith is a mother to her 15-month-old child as she pursues a nursing degree at Dorsey. "This financial support helps so much because I can focus more on my studies without thinking about the financial burden of paying for nursing school and paying my bills," Smith said. Big picture view Officials from Dorsey were so inspired by the mission of 'Nursing from the D' that they made a major announcement. "Just listening to these young ladies and their inspiration has inspired me, and I think I want to ensure that Dorsey is sponsoring a student every year, at least to the tune of $1500. I'm excited to continue and be a part of it," said Dorsey College Sr VP of Education and Career Services Mickey McLean. Patrice's mom Roslind Livingston, was on hand to witness how her daughter is continuing to transform lives, not through nursing as she had hoped, but through a shared sense of community. Inside Patrice Evra's TEN YEAR plot to make MMA debut with Man Utd legend to have France icons corner him in cage

PATRICE EVRA has secretly been plotting an MMA debut over the last TEN YEARS - and could have French royalty in his corner. Evra retired from football in 2019 after a glittering career that saw him win FIVE Prem titles with Manchester United and a Champions League. 4 But after hanging up his boots, the former France international has moved into a punditry and even reality TV. He starred in the Netflix series Inside - hosted by KSI's YouTube group The Sidemen. And in perhaps his most shocking post-career move of all - Evra has signed with the Professional Fighters League to make his MMA debut. But, Evra has trained in kickboxing for the last decade to help build towards his stunning and brutal switch of sports. PFL Managing Director James Frewin told SunSport: "Patrice has been looking at finding the right place to make his MMA debut for a while since he finished his football career. "He's always wanted to take on a different challenge. He's always been training behind the scenes for the last ten years in combat, with a focus on kickboxing. "And, he's a busy guy. He's a very successful entrepreneur. So, he and I were introduced in Dubai, about ten weeks ago, he shared his vision and his passion for this project. "And it just so happened we had the right platform. We operate in the right way and we had a date in Paris that made sense which is Friday, May 23rd." Evra is a close friend of kickboxing legend and MMA star Cedric Doumbe - who will help train the former left-back. And Evra is even considering calling on the help of French football icons Thierry Henry and Zinedine Zidane. Patrice Evra gives update on MMA debut and reveals Luis Suarez's response to fight challenge Frewin revealed: "Cedric at the same time reached out and offered Patrice all the support he needs from a training perspective. "At this stage, we're hearing that Cedric Doumbe will corner Patrice Evra on May 23rd. "And Patrice even suggested there may be a very famous footballers to walk him out to and gave me two names. "It's yet to be confirmed, but Zidane or Henry might be in the corner as well." Evra, 43, is yet to announce his opponent for the PFL Paris event staged at the Accor Arena. But he has called out ex-Liverpool striker Luis Suarez, 38, who is still playing for Inter Miami and feuded with Evra during his Prem days. Suarez has been offered a cageside seat for Evra's bout with talks to make the grudge fight happen at a preliminary stage. Frewin added: "Luis is an elite athlete. He's still playing football, he's not training mixed martial arts, so let's see. "Hopefully he'll be there in Paris on May 23rd, and then we can take it from there." 4 4

Philadelphians Try Each Other's Philly Cheesesteaks

Who doesn't love a well-made Philly Cheesesteak?! "Well-made" is the key word, here. We got to thinking and decided only people who are from Philly can throw together a cheesesteak and rate the best out the bunch. So that's what we did! BuzzFeed We've got real Philadelphians to cook and rate each other's Philly cheesesteaks, including Philly chef Derrick Hayes. Let's see who comes out on top! BuzzFeed First up, we have Patrice, who's cheesecake looks more like a hoagie. BuzzFeed She chose a hot dog roll, which is a little out of the ordinary, but let's see what the others thought about it. Colin and Jarabi were definitely feeling it! Patrice walks away with a 10.5. Colin is up next. He's made a completely unconventional mac and cheese Philly cheesesteak. We don't know about this one... BuzzFeed BuzzFeed Apparently neither does Jarabi and Patrice because home boy only got a combined score of 2. Damn. BuzzFeed Lastly, we have Jarabi. He's made his cheesecake with an amarosa roll. Classic~ BuzzFeed BuzzFeed BuzzFeed BuzzFeed But wait, there's more! We've decided to get Derrick Hayes, a well known Chef from Philly, to have the final vote on who wins! BuzzFeed After tasting all three sandwiches, including Colin's, it seems he has made a decision! BuzzFeed Derrick loves Jabari's rendition of a traditional Philly cheesesteak, and advises a better cut of beef. Nice—all Jabari has to do is buy some USDA Prime and she'll be good! BuzzFeed Classic takes are the way to go because Jabari wins with a combined score of 19.7! BuzzFeed
