Broncos poach rising executive from Patriots

Broncos poach rising executive from Patriots Denver Broncos general manager George Paton has several positions to fill this offseason, and the hires have begun. The Broncos have hired Cam Williams as a co-director of player personnel, according to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter. Williams, who interviewed for the position last week, previously served as director of college scouting with the New England Patriots. Williams joined the Patriots in 2016 as a scouting assistant, and he worked his way up to an area scout (2018-2021), then to a national scout (2021-2022) and then to director of college scouting (2022-2025). Williams is the first of several personnel hires on deck for Denver this offseason. Earlier this year, Paton's staff lost assistant general manager Darren Mougey, V.P. of football operations Mark Thewes, college scouting director Brian Stark, national scout Rob Paton and senior personnel executive David Shaw. The New York Jets hired Mougey as their GM and the Las Vegas Raiders hired ex-Broncos scout John Spytek as their new GM. That started a domino effect of Denver losing more staff members as the new GMs hired familiar faces. Stark and Thewes reunited with Spytek in Las Vegas, and Paton left to join Mougey's staff in New York. Shaw left to become a pass-game coordinator with the Detroit Lions, and his old role is not one that the Broncos necessarily need to fill. At least four other positions needed to be filled, though, and Williams is the first known hire as Paton rebuilds his staff. Related: These 25 celebrities are Broncos fans
