Free tax help with Shreveport nonprofit
SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Searching for free tax assistance before the April 15 deadline? The Highland Center is offering free tax assistance to those in the community.
The volunteer income tax assistance program gives free tax return help to anyone who earned $67,000 or less in 2024.
The program allows people to drop off their forms to the center and pick them up when they are ready. Anyone within the threshold is welcome.
'I would say that anybody would qualify to come and see us. I am retired and have come back out into the workforce and I still qualify. I retired from the State, and my State retirement, as good as it is, still enables me to be here,' says Volunteer Income Tax Assistant Patt Carroll.

The program is available at the Highland Center until April 9th. It is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, 10 AM—6 PM.
Their team can also help individuals learn about maximizing their refund with Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and determine if they qualify for this valuable benefit.
EITC is a refundable tax credit, which means that a qualifying family receives the full amount of the credit they qualify for regardless of whether they have a sufficiently large tax liability to offset the credit, says Invest Louisiana.
