SOUTH HAVEN, Mich. (WOOD) — Low water levels have forced a replica topsail sloop to cancel its trip to Holland for Tulip Time. Officials with the say low levels in the South Haven Harbor have forced the Friends Good Will to stay at its home port. The ship was set to be on display at the Holland festival from May 2 through May 10. Dredging set to start this week on Holland Harbor The is a replica of a sloop built in 1810. The actual ship was captured by the British during the War of 1812. 'Visitors will learn about the history of the fur trade and commerce on the Great Lakes during Friends Good Will's active days and its role in the War of 1812,' . People can still tour and learn about the Friends Good Will but will have to travel to South Haven to do it. Tulip Time announces grand marshals 'We're disappointed not to bring Friends Good Will to Holland this year, but safety always comes first,' Patti Montgomery-Reinert, executive director of the Michigan Maritime Museum, said in a news release. 'We're excited to invite visitors to our waterfront campus in South Haven to experience the ship where it lives year-round.' On the days the ship was supposed to be in Holland, the museum is offering special dockside tours of the sloop.
