YouTube is going to new lengths to nab an Emmy
From " Beast Games" to "Paul American" to Ms. Rachel, Hollywood wants a piece of YouTube. But the video giant, which stopped making its own original content in 2022, isn't sitting idly by while streamers like Amazon Prime, HBO Max, and Netflix court its creators. Behind the scenes, the company is working to elevate its native content within Hollywood and prove its creators are worthy of the industry's highest honors. One key component is YouTube's Emmys push. A creator has never won a Primetime Emmy — TV's most prestigious award — in a main, televised category for their show, a YouTube spokesperson said. While creators have nabbed nominations and wins in the past, the company is pulling out all the PR and marketing stops for a different outcome. In addition to the cultural cache, a win could sway more ad budgets reserved for premium TV in YouTube's direction, as The Wall Street Journal reported. For the first time this year, YouTube hosted a "For Your Consideration" event in Los Angeles, escalating its efforts to nab an Emmy for its creators. It's not alone; earlier this month, Amazon pushed YouTube's most popular creator, MrBeast, for Emmy consideration at its own FYC event. These events convene awards voters — in this case, members of the Television Academy — to screen content and introduce them to prospective nominees. Emmy nominations are set to be announced on July 15. This year, YouTube is backing three creators who self-submitted for Primetime nominations, including Sean Evans' "Hot Ones" in the Outstanding Talk Series category; Rhett and Link's "Good Mythical Morning" for Outstanding Short Form Comedy, Drama or Variety Series; and Michelle Khare's "Challenge Accepted" for Outstanding Hosted Nonfiction Series or Special. YouTube's event, held on Sunday, featured screenings and conversations with each of the creators. There were also themed food trucks — such as the "be your mythical best" bean burger and "Challenge Accepted" fuel bowls — and recreations of each creator's sets for guests to take photos at and tag on social media. YouTube does not fund individual creators' Emmy submissions or FYC campaigns in their entirety, a spokesperson told Business Insider. It's providing PR and marketing support, as it did last year. In addition to the event, this support includes drumming up press for the shows, and running billboards timed to the Upfronts and Cannes Lions advertising events, as well as across Los Angeles this summer. A win for the creator economy at large Khare, who has 5 million YouTube subscribers, told BI she isn't sure whether her series "Challenge Accepted" would have been greenlit in the traditional studio system. The show sees her try out difficult jobs like FBI hostage negotiation and joining the traveling circus. The challenges can be dangerous and the shoots long. That's why she said an Emmy nomination would mark a win for the creator economy writ large. "Anytime a creator in the digital landscape does something, it's paving a new way for everybody exterior to the traditional Hollywood system," she said. YouTube CEO Neal Mohan said in a Hollywood Reporter op-ed that YouTubers deserve Emmys and the Television Academy should consider expanding its categories. The Emmys "should reflect what viewers are actually watching on their TV screens," he said — a nod to YouTube's growing dominance in the living room. Many creators "operate as full-fledged studios with writers' rooms, production teams, and genre-defining formats," Angela Courtin, YouTube's VP of marketing for connected TV and creative studio, told BI in a statement. "It is only fitting that their creative achievements be honored alongside Hollywood's most celebrated figures." In addition to its FYC efforts, YouTube has helped creators get into film festivals, the spokesperson said. Khare had a screening at the Montclair Film Festival last year, and Evans and "Good Mythical Morning" were both at Sundance and SXSW this year. YouTube's efforts to position its content alongside traditional TV don't stop there. YouTube is also readying a "Shows" feature for its TV app to give episodic content more of a polish. First announced in September and touted at YouTube's Brandcast advertising event, Shows organizes YouTube series into seasons and episodes on dynamic landing pages.

Logan Paul Suggested It's 'Woke' To Say 'Women Have It Hard,' And People Don't Know If To Laugh Or Cry
For better or worse, you probably know Logan Paul. He's an internet personality, wrestler, boxer, entrepreneur, and occasional actor whose time in the spotlight has brought with it a number of controversies. Now, along with his many occupations, Logan has identified himself as someone who empathizes with women… and this truly feels like something out of a comedy skit. For context, Logan is engaged to model Nina Agdal, and in September 2024, the couple welcomed a baby daughter. In a recent episode of his reality show, Paul American, which was filmed during Nina's pregnancy, Logan grappled with the idea of raising a daughter and made a biiiiiig statement about women's struggles in the world. 'Thinking about having a daughter, my mind went to some dark places, dude,' he said in a confessional, looking somber. 'I don't want to come across like a woke asshole, but like, dude, women have it hard. Women have it fucking hard. And I empathize with them.' As a woman in the world, I can confirm that women do have it hard, some far more than others — whether it's sexism, abuse, or just generally having our rights stripped away from us by men in power. With that in mind, I appreciate Logan's empathy. However, his framing of the statement as if it were something remarkably brave or profound (with sad music in the background, no less) is nothing short of baffling, and people seem to agree. On X, the clip has been viewed millions of times, and one repost with over 392,000 likes joked that Logan was 'having his first critical thought at the ripe age of thirty.' Others were amused/disheartened by his fears of being classified as a 'woke asshole' for expressing 'bare minimum empathy.' Hilariously, there were a ton of comparisons to The Deep, Chace Crawford 's superhero character in The Boys — 'cause, if you know, you know. Prime Video / Via

Jake Paul announces he will fight Julio Cesar Chávez Jr. on June 28 in Anaheim
Jake Paul attends the Max Original reality series premiere of "Paul American" at the Tempo by Hilton Times Square on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, in New York. (Photo by Evan Agostini/Invision/AP) ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Jake Paul will take on former middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chávez Jr. in the influencer-boxer's next bout on June 28 at Anaheim's Honda Center. Paul (11-1, 7 KOs) and Chávez (54-6-1, 34 KOs) will have a 10-round fight at a 200-pound catchweight limit, promoter Golden Boy announced Friday. Advertisement Paul has mostly fought fellow YouTubers and mixed martial artists since beginning his wildly lucrative boxing career five years ago. He fought 58-year-old Mike Tyson last November, winning by unanimous decision. Paul negotiated extensively for a bout against Mexican star Canelo Alvarez earlier this year, but Alvarez spurned the bout for a rich four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, the boxing promotional arm of Saudi Arabia's General Entertainment Authority. It's unclear whether Alvarez was serious about fighting Paul or simply leveraging the Internet star for a bigger payday. The 39-year-old Chávez has been somewhere in between a serious boxer and a showman for many years. He had a long, lucrative career of his own, but it was largely built on Mexican fans' unconditional love of his famous father. The younger Chávez was best known for lacking discipline and frequently missing weight, although he also managed to win the WBC middleweight title in 2011 and defend it three times before Sergio Martinez took it away in 2012. Advertisement Chávez has also resorted to fighting mixed martial artists in recent years, and he infamously lost to former UFC star Anderson Silva in 2021. Chávez has fought only twice since that defeat, and he narrowly beat former UFC fighter Uriah Hall in a six-round bout last year. ___ AP boxing:

Jake Paul, Logan Paul reality show will remind you of your own family. Well, sorta.
They fight. They make up. They laugh. They cry. They love. 'Paul American,'' the new reality show starring Jake Paul and Logan Paul, premieres Thursday night on HBO Max. In many ways, the famous brothers and their family will remind you of your own. Well, perhaps with the exception of Logan Paul apparently smoking weed with his father, Greg, who carries a hunting knife and muses about blowing up Los Angeles. Or Jake Paul having a romantic anniversary dinner with his girlfriend, only to leave her at the table and loudly relieve himself nearby. Season 1 of 'Paul American' is eight episodes, with a new episode available to HBO Max subscribers every Thursday. USA TODAY Sports viewed the first four episodes, and at times found the series endearing, entertaining, funny and dull. The bottom line: If you're fans of Jake Paul, the 28-year-old YouTuber-turned-boxer, and Logan Paul, the 29-year-old YouTuber-turned-pro wrestler, their reality show will be mandatory viewing. If you're not fans, however, the show probably won't change your opinion of them. Although some Paul critics might develop an appreciation, if not affection, for the brothers who rocketed to fame via social media. Their divorced parents add a nice touch to the show. But 'Paul American'' is at its best when the brothers are interacting with their significant others. Logan is engaged to Nina Agdal, a Danish model who was on the 50th anniversary cover of Sports Illustrated's Swimsuit Issue in 2014. Jake recently got engaged to Jutta Leerdam, a Dutch speedskater, who clearly adores him but in one scene shows a flash of annoyance as Jake starts hamming it up for the cameras. 'You're in your character a lot,'' Leerdam says. 'This is reality, so snap out of it.'' Trying to discern how much of this show is 'reality' is part of the challenge. The episode focuses on the Paul brothers pitching the reality show to Hollywood producers while simultaneously engaged in a fight meant to underscore their sibling rivalry. It's not convincing. Logan calls Tyson old during a podcast. Jake angrily accuses Logan of undermining the fight. Hostility spikes as they're trying to sell a reality show! Reality or 'reality?' Soon enough they reconcile and are pitching the show on a joint phone call and celebrating news that they've landed a deal. It's some of the least compelling content in the first four episodes. But it's useful as a means of introducing their parents and their dad's hunting knife to the TV audience, along with Agdal and Leerdam, who establish themselves as pivotal to the show's success. Agdal, for example, has a surprise for Logan. A surprise that should help keep viewers tuned in to episodes 3 and 4, when the series picks up steam. 'Paul American' does pack some surprises Leerdam says Jake's a romantic. Outrageous? Well, it appears to be undeniably true, despite his relieving himself near the table during their one-year anniversary dinner. For years, Jake has ranted that his critics don't know 'the real'' Jake Paul. This is his chance to present that person. The show takes us behind the scenes during Jake's preparation for a fight against Mike Perry on July 20. Perhaps there is a piece of the real Jake, engaged in meditation, breathwork and a spiritual ceremony as the fight approaches. You might not know the 'real' Jake better than the bombastic YouTuber-turned-boxer, but you'll probably feel like you know him better. If there's a sense of true 'reality,'' it's Leerdam, who comes across as the most authentic person in the show. Although it's not entirely clear how much Agdal and Jake's mother, Pam, approve of her. Perhaps that'll become clearer as the show progresses and the Pauls wrestle with something that feels real. 'Views and followers and subscribers is a very lethal drug,'' Jake Paul says at one point. 'It's the YouTuber disease. … 'The cameras are always around.' This story first appeared on USA Today Sports.

Jake Paul Makes Massive $4 Million Offer For High-Profile Rematch
NEW YORK, NEW YORK - MARCH 26: Jake Paul attends the premiere of "Paul American" at Tempo by Hilton ... More New York Times Square on March 26, 2025 in New York City. (Photo by Taylor Hill/FilmMagic) Jake Paul is looking for a fight. After his huge bout with Canelo Alvarez fell through last month, he has pivoted. Paul called out former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua, but that's not a fight he'd be able to have anytime soon, considering Joshua is likely already plugged into something in September. Paul took to social media on Thursday to call for a rematch with Tommy Fury, the only man who owns a win over him. Paul's offer–$4 million–is nothing to sneeze at and likely dwarfs what Fury was offered—and turned down—in his canceled fight with Darren Till earlier this year. Paul seemingly wants the rematch with Fury to take place in the United States, but he has a contingency offer in place for the younger brother of the legendary Tyson Fury. In their first fight, Fury won a split decision over Paul, with two of the judges scoring the fight 76-73 in his favor and one judge scoring it 75-74 for the YouTuber-turned-boxer. RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA - FEBRUARY 26: Tommy Fury punches Jake Paul during the Cruiserweight Title ... More fight between Jake Paul and Tommy Fury at the Diriyah Arena on February 26, 2023 in RIYADH, Saudi Arabia. (Photo by) While Paul may have run into some impediments in his pursuit of a major fight against legends like Canelo and Joshua, he still has a wealth of options for his next fight. Fighting Paul still equates to a major payday for anyone involved, and offers like the one he just publicly offered to Fury are proof. While Paul could fight Fury next, it won't stop his pursuit of a bout against a more established, unquestioned pillar of boxing. According to longtime journalist Dan Rafael, Paul had discussions about an exhibition match with lightweight champion Gervonta Davis before Tank battled Lamont Roach Jr. to a draw on March 1. Now, Davis and Roach are seemingly locked in for a pay-per-view rematch later this year. Another strong option for Paul could be a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. While Chavez Jr. is no longer a world-class fighter, he does have considerable notoriety because of his lineage and his in-ring accomplishments, including a run as a legitimate world champion. A fight with someone like Fury or Chavez Jr. could wind up being Paul's requisite next step before he gets a chance to prove what he can do against the sport's most respected champions like Canelo, Joshua, and even Davis. Here is a look at the complete list of results for all of Paul's professional boxing matches.
