Wimmer needs backing after Well's 'fairly average season'
The season is officially over. We had some highs and certainly some include reaching the League Cup semi-final, the win at St Mirren in December, beating Rangers at Ibrox, and the ladies team making the Scottish Cup last honest review is that other than the games highlighted above for the men's side it was a fairly average season.I am hoping with the right backing for his first full campaign in charge, Michael Wimmer will be able to build a strong, attacking squad with some faces from markets we haven't yet have the opportunity to sell the club's crown jewel Lennon Miller and invest the proceeds smartly. The £3.25m we got for David Turnbull and the £1m for James Scott came at a vital time and changed a lot for the club. If we can get £6m for Miller, it will make the world of the Women of Steel, I am intensely proud of them securing a first top-six finish and reaching a cup semi-final.I hope the restructuring of the SWPL - from 12 teams to 10 - doesn't widen the already sizeable gap between the top clubs and the has been a season of change for both Motherwell sides in many ways and I wish nothing but the best for Wimmer and Paul Brownlie next season.

Motherwell 0-6 Hearts: What the managers said
Motherwell manager Paul Brownlie: "I thought in the first 30 minutes we were absolutely magnificent, we played with a real purpose and created some unbelievable opportunities to a point where we could have been three or four up. "We need to take our opportunities at this level, if you don't you get punished. I'd have loved to have seen the players score to give them a wee bit of belief but now it's onto the next one."Hearts manager Eva Olid: "The first minutes were a little difficult, Motherwell are always difficult. "We couldn't find space in the final third but when we scored the first goal I felt the game changed and we could enjoy playing more. We kept the ball well and that is what we want to try to do."

Rangers 6-0 Motherwell: What the managers said
Rangers manager Jo Potter: "I asked the players to step up and out and give a better performance than we have done. We needed that one today and we've got to use that to kick on. "We've got to try and win every single game we go into and we've got to keep the pressure on and keep pushing until the last second."Motherwell head coach Paul Brownlie: "I don't think it was a 6-0 game so I'm disappointed with the result. It's been a really intense week for the players - a Scottish Cup semi-final then a midweek game at Hibs - it was difficult, but we asked them to give us everything and they did that."

'Beyond proud of the women of steel'
With the men's team out of action last weekend I would like to shift focus to the ladies of women as they secured a place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup at Hampden.I am over the moon for the girls, who will attempt to upset the odds against favourites Glasgow City and reach the season marks the second time in two years we have made it to Hampden. Back in April 2023 it was a battling 2-0 defeat to Rangers, so I'm hoping for a more positive outcome this time.I am beyond proud of the girls and encourage every Well fan to go along and get right behind the girls in claret and amber just like they did in is silverware and we know far too well how long it has been since either the men's or women's team brought a trophy back to Fir of luck to Paul Brownlie and the team - here's hoping they bring it home.
