Nevada resident charged in violent Tesla arson case in Las Vegas

( — The Office of Public Affairs released a statement that they have arrested and charged a Nevada resident who was in connection with violent Tesla arson in Las Vegas. U.S. DOJ stated that according to allegations in the complaint, on March 18, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department patrol officers responded to an emergency call about a person setting vehicles on fire and hearing gunshots at a Tesla collision business. Clark County Fire Department arrived at the scene and suppressed the fire. During the investigation, it was determined that Molotov cocktails and a .30 Caliber AR-style firearm had been used to damage and destroy five Tesla vehicles, and graffiti with the word 'Resist' was written on the front of the building, stated U.S. DOJ. A Las Vegas resident made his appearance on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Las Vegas to face federal charges related to an arson at a Tesla collision business, according to a press release by the U.S. Department of Justice. Bill to improve homeless youth services passes Assembly Committee on Housing and Community Development U.S. DOJ stated that they have identified the arsonist as Paul Hyon Kim, 36, who was charged by criminal complaint with one count of unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm and one count of arson. LVMPD officers arrested him on Thursday where he remains to be in federal custody. 'The Department of Justice has been clear: anyone who participates in the wave of domestic terrorism targeting Tesla properties will suffer severe legal consequences,' said Attorney General Pamela Bondi. 'We will continue to find, arrest, and prosecute these attackers until the lesson is learned.' According to the U.S. DOJ, law enforcement officials executed many state search warrants related to this case on Thursday, including a warrant for Kim's home. After authorities searched the house, they found various firearms which included an AR-style rifle consistent with the firearm that was used in the incident on March 18 with a suppressor on it along with the following: Black gun belt with a pinch and a small drop of pink paint residue Black hoodie Face masks A handwritten note with what appeared to be an escape plan 'Today's federal charges demonstrate our strong partnerships and collaboration with law enforcement partners and the joint pursuit to end domestic terrorism,' said Acting U.S. Attorney Sue Fahami for the District of Nevada. Officials said that if Kim is convicted, he will face a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison for the unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm charge and a mandatory sentence of five years in prison up to a maximum of 20 years in prison for arson charges. At this time, LVMPD, the Clark County District Attorney's Office, the FBI, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are investigating the case with huge help from the CCFD. 'We will prosecute this case to the fullest extent of the law and remain steadfastly committed to working with our law enforcement partners to combat domestic violent extremism,' said Fahami. Man charged with destroying Teslas in Las Vegas, amid anti-Musk wave

A man who allegedly set fire to five Teslas and sprayed them with bullets from a semi-automatic rifle appeared in a US court Thursday to face federal arson charges, the Department of Justice said. Paul Hyon Kim, 36, is suspected of being behind the assault on a Tesla business in Las Vegas, among a wave of attacks targeting Elon Musk's electric car brand as anger rises over government funding cuts he is overseeing. The DoJ said in a statement that emergency services were called to the Tesla repair center on March 18 after reports of gunshots. 'During the investigation, it was determined that Molotov cocktails and a .30 caliber AR-style firearm were used to damage and destroy five Tesla vehicles, and graffiti was sprayed to write 'Resist' on the front of the building,' the statement said. Kim was arrested a week later. He has been charged with one count of unlawful possession of an unregistered firearm and one count of arson. He faces up to 20 years in prison on the arson charge alone. 'The Department of Justice has been clear: anyone who participates in the wave of domestic terrorism targeting Tesla properties will suffer severe legal consequences,' said US Attorney General Pamela Bondi. 'We will continue to find, arrest, and prosecute these attackers until the lesson is learned.' Musk, the South African-born billionaire chief of Tesla and SpaceX, is leading Donald Trump's ruthless cost-cutting drive at the head of the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Several Tesla dealerships and a number of cars around the country have been vandalized in recent weeks, and the company's stock price has plummeted over the past month.
