Local YMCA named recipient of national education grant
HENDERSON, Ky (WEHT) – The YMCA of Southwestern Indiana was recently named a national recipient of the Paul Purcell 'Kids Win!' Annual Baird Education Grant.
According to a release, the YMCA was awarded $50,000 to further develop STEM programming offered at the CenterPoint Energy YMCA located on the southside of Evansville.
Officials state the grant will allow the YMCA of Southwestern Indiana to better leverage and fully utilize the STEM lab at the CenterPoint Energy YMCA by hiring staff with expertise that can deliver STEM lessons Monday through Friday to youth in the community.
Officials also state grant funds will allow the YMCA to retain a NASA Ambassador to run the STEM LAB, to partner with the University of Evansville faculty and students to oversee the STEM program and ensure it is linked to Indiana state standards and to position the STEM Lab to have long-term, high impact on local students.
