Over 63,000 Pounds of Oats Are Being Recalled — Here's What We Know So Far

This article may contain affiliate links that Yahoo and/or the publisher may receive a commission from if you buy a product or service through those links. Oats are a staple in most pantries (I know they are in mine), and the possibilities of things you can make with the humble grain are endless. Maybe you've been switching out your classic oatmeal breakfast for overnight oats as the weather warms up. Or you're adding some as a topping to a fruit crumble. Perhaps you even make your own oat milk. Whatever the case may be, it's clear that oats are versatile. But before you grab some for the next recipe you're whipping up, you may want to double-check the container. The Food and Drug Administration just recalled over 63,000 pounds of oats due to plastic contamination. The oats (both regular and quick rolled) were produced by Grain Millers Inc., a company based out of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and sent to distributors in California and Indiana. The recall was first initiated on February 11, 2025, and the FDA officially deemed it a 'Class II' recall on April 22, 2025 (meaning it could 'cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences'). According to Grain Millers Inc.'s website, the company is the 'world's largest organic oat processor and produces about 1/4 of all the oats in North America.' While it's suspected that these oats may have been shipped to businesses (such as bakeries, for example), you may want to check your oats if you live in California or Indiana. Here are the exact batches that were recalled. 20 totes of 1,800 pounds of Regular Rolled Oats #5 with a product identification number of 810239153 and code information number of 250131N-1 17 totes of 1,600 pounds of Quick Rolled Oats #21 with a product identification number of 811176 and code information number of 250202N-2 No injuries or illnesses have been reported yet, but if you happen to have these recalled oats, do not consume them. Throw them out immediately or return them to the seller you bought them from for a refund. Consuming plastic could be extremely dangerous and cause choking or puncture wounds in the mouth and throat, or it could become lodged in your digestive tract. If your oats have one of the product identification numbers listed above, we recommend tossing them — better to be safe than sorry! I Just Discovered the Most Brilliant Way to Seal a Bag of Potato Chips

TikTok will point you in the direction of so many ingenious ideas that you can use in the kitchen, from clever cooking techniques to highly sought-after celebrity-created recipes. Recently a creator shared a tutorial for sealing an open bag of potato chips (if you don't have a clip on hand), and the video has since racked up 6.2 million views. In the clip, @_finallyallison, a digital creator who shares recipes and cooking advice, dropped a step-by-step instructional video on sealing an open bag of chips sans any special equipment or clamps. It's perfect for those moments when you're snacking on some crisps, but know you won't be able to finish the entire pouch. Here's how to do the famous chip bag folding technique: Start by straightening out the bag of chips, then fold each corner toward the back of the bag. After that, fold the top flap of the bag over itself. Next, roll the bag tightly from the top to the bottom right before you reach where you can feel the chips. Finally, tuck the open flaps in the front into the back of the bag to seal it. This method, which certainly feels a bit like origami, will keep your chips sealed so they don't go stale. People immediately raced to the comment section of this TikTok tutorial to share their thoughts. One person said, 'Gonna try that next time — so neat!' while another user mentioned, 'I learned this life hack years ago I still use it.' Other people jokingly argued that this hack might take a bit too long, 'Ain't nobody got time for origami chip foldin',' and another pointed out, 'That's cute that you think we don't eat the whole bag in one sitting.' If you find that this method of folding and sealing is a bit too complicated for your liking, you can try plenty of other chip-sealing hacks. Last year The Kitchn reported on another method that simply involves folding a triangle 'ear' on each corner and then rolling the bag down. Whichever route you decide to take, it'll be worth it. While we can always hope we'll have a chip clip on hand, that's not always the case — especially if you find yourself at the beach or a BBQ. So, to prevent the fate of stale chips, use this brilliant technique and you'll be on track to never waste your pouch of snacks again. Costco's Latest Store Change Has Members So Excited

Costco continues to garner a devoted following, with fans obsessing over the warehouse store's new snacks, bakery items, frozen foods, and even homeware gems. The retailer is now winning over shoppers once again with a new store policy that could greatly affect the future of many of its employees. Costco plans to roll out a pay increase for its nonunionized workers over the next three years, according to an internal memo sent to employees. This move has resonated with shoppers — many of whom are now choosing to support the warehouse retailer in response to its commitment to investing in its workforce. Here's what you need to know about Costco's new wage increase: Starting in March 2024, store clerks and assistants at the top of the pay scale will see their hourly pay go up by $1 to $30.20 an hour, with another $1 increase each year thereafter. For entry-level employees, wages will rise by 50 cents to $20 an hour. 'With these changes, we believe our hourly wages and benefits will continue to far outpace others in the retail industry,' the company said in the memo. This policy rollout comes as the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, representing nearly 18,000 Costco employees, pushes for better pay and benefits. Their efforts are part of ongoing negotiations before their contract expires on Friday, February 7. 'Costco is still shorting their workers because nonunion workers lack the retirement security of a defined benefit pension plan and the job protections that come with a union contract,' Matthew McQuaid, a Costco Teamsters spokesperson, said in an email sent to NPR. A few days ago, Costco also announced it would continue its commitment to DEI (diversity, equity, and inclusion) policies, even as many companies are falling short of their initial promises to prioritize company culture. As a result, many shoppers are not only attracted to Costco for its wide range of products, but are also choosing to support the company for its commitment to investing in and supporting its employees. When news of Costco's wage increase for employees spread on social media, people quickly took to the comments to show their support. Complex, a pop culture news platform, posted about the store policy change, and one user commented, 'I'm going to get my Costco membership.' Another added, 'Support Costco at all costs. We need all other stores, companies, and businesses to match this, or better. I'm talking about all the ones making hundreds of millions, billions. I'm going to Costco more often, starting now.'
