Hinton businesses preparing for tourist season
HINTON, WV (WVNS) — With temperatures warming up and people itching to get out and about, small towns will soon see a boom in tourism throughout the state. Grand opening date announced for Golden Ticket Cinemas 8 at Mercer Mall For towns like Hinton, tourist season is usually the busiest time of the year. People will be out taking rafting trips down the Greenbrier and New Rivers, hiking in Bluestone and Pipestem state parks, and patronizing the local small businesses in town. One small business already has their tourist season preparations well underway. April Huffman, owner of the Ice Cream Shack, said her store is stocked up. 'We have 35 flavors of ice cream, five new flavors that are new to us. We have barbeques, hotdogs, French fries, they are homemade. Homemade barbeque, homemade chili and slaw,' said Huffman. Huffman said she has sampled each of the new flavors they are offering this year, and that her favorite is Peanut Butter Pie. Though the Ice Cream Shack was open over the winter season this year, Huffman said most of their business is done during the summer months, at the height of tourist season. She said she does enjoy the influx of business tourist season brings, but there is something else she is looking forward to even more. 'I love meeting new people! I love hearing where they're from and their stories. A lot of them come in to visit family, a lot of them just love this little town. So, I love meeting all the new people and I love seeing all my old customers come back in and just being friendly,' said Huffman. Beckley Art Center to debut 'This Is Us' exhibit Huffman said she has missed several of her regulars and looks forward to welcoming them back to the Ice Cream Shack with their favorite orders ready and waiting. Publix has a cafecito truck? Free coffee rolling on a 2-day Miami tour. Where to find it
Publix is sending its cafecito truck on a two-day 'culture and community' tour of the Miami area on Tuesday and Wednesday. Expect samples of coffee, cafecito and pastries, Publix spokeswoman Lindsey Willis said. The Lakeland-based chain often goes mobile and sends products into neighborhoods on promotional tours. Last summer, the supermarket ran an ice cream truck tour that stopped in Broward and Palm Beach counties to hand out free samples of eight limited-edition flavors. We didn't need prodding to try the refreshing Lemon Berry Bliss. And we still occasionally see cartons of Lemon Berry Bliss at the Kendall-area stores. Newer limited edition varieties include Black Swamp Raspberry Cheesecake and Peanut Butter Pie. Here are the stops for the cafecito truck tour — and this time Miami-Dade is in play. Where can you get free coffee? ▪ University of Miami's Lakeside Plaza at 1353 Stanford Dr. on the Coral Gables campus. When: 10 a.m.-noon, Tuesday, March 4. ▪ Domino Park at 1444 SW Eighth St., Miami. When: 9 a.m.-11 a.m., Wednesday, March 5. ▪ Miami Dade College's Wolfson Campus at 399 NE First Ave., Miami. When: 1 p.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, March 5.
